I don't know how it worked on TT3, but on TT4 (For the Palm) when ever you exited and restarted, a route would be de-activated.

This could be a bit of a pain, as you would have to "Navigate To->" every time you exited TT during a journey.

In TT5, the route remains active after you exit, which is really nice as you can now quit TT and then restart and continue on your route without doing anything.

BUT.. Its a real pain once you have got to your destination, as when you start out the next time, it keeps telling you to turn around until you 'cancel' the route, as it still thinks that you are on the previous route

Quite why they didn't design this so that if you exited TT when you were within a few yards of your destination, it would know that you had got there and would cancel the route for you..

I am not sure which is more annoying now.. Could this be described as a 'bug'??

no, this is one of the coolest features of TomTom, and a true distinguisher. When you have to exit the program, or soft reset your PDA, etc - your route is still there, and you don't have to re-enter it.

There is a "Clear Route" button which I have put on my first menu page. So whenever you think that active guidance should stop, just hit the screen, tap the button, and you won't hear the PDA yell at you any more to turn around.

Definitely not a bug.

Don't get me wrong, I too like the feature.

But the real pain is that when you have got where you are going, the route stays active.

I would love to have the 'cancel' button on the front screen, and git rid of 'traffic', but as a Palm user, it appears that the "SDKRegistry" feature doesn't work.

It would have been hard for them to automatically clear a route when you have arrived.

For me, I get in the car in the morning and whilst I am driving out of my estate, I am having to listen to TomTom say "Turn around", whilst trying to find the page with 'Clear Route' on it!

Ahh, finally something where the PPC users are not the last ones to get a feature! 8)

Yep.. So much for the theory that all versions are now based on the same engine.

The Palm version does not support the "Menu Modification" which means that we have to live with the 'Traffic' button on the front page and are not able to bring other buttons into a more sensible screen.

This isn't a major problem, and I do love the fact that I can now exit TomTom without loosing my route.. But ever morning, I curse it because I keep getting told to turn around until I find the 'cancel' button and get rid of the route

Not necessaril the case - the engine can be the same - but different OS will mean different SDKs.
