Is there such a thing?

I just bought a HandNav mount but am sending it back after finding it wobles all over the place and now thinking I am going to have to spend a bit more. I like the Brodit ones but I want to be able to move it into a rental car from time to time so wanting a windscreen mount option.

Any thoughts?

Hi AlanK,

I use Brodit Active mounts with the Brodit Move Clip, which allows me to quickly move a mount from one vehicle to another. The trouble is that you need the specific Brodit Pro Clip to be (semi) permanently fixed to your car.

This set-up won’t work for hire cars. I solved this problem by buying a Haicom "Universal PDA Holder - Windscreen Suction Mount" from GPS Warehouse. For details, have a look here. Thumbs Up

You stick part of the Brodit Move Clip onto the flat magnetic plate. Note there is a strong magnet there, so don’t use a Microdrive. We had no problems with an iPAQ 2210 and a CF Card whilst we were driving a hire car in Jersey using CoPilot.

Regards,

Thats what I feared.

Saw that magnet thing the other day - do I get a clip to attach to the the magnet (and in turn Brodit) or does it just stick straight onto the Ipaq?

oh - and is it solid mount?

The one I have just sent back was non TomTom (which I had before) and found altho the arm was stiff where it joined the windscreen mount there was some movement which meant the whole cradle would jump about an inch left to right/ up & down... but warry of generic mounts now...

Sorry, never read that properly - so I need a Brodit mount, a clip for my own car, a move clip thingy and that magnetic mount.... shame its £4 delivery for a £10 mount...

Have to work out how much I want a Brodit mount overy a standard TomTom Ipaq holder - off to read the review again...more for the speaker than anything else...

Anyone use a HP IPAQ HC-100 from GPS 4 Less?

Looks like it woudl fit the bill and is cheap but after last experience of in house mounts may be complete junk....

that looks suspiciously like the haicom powered mount.

if it is............... I have had one in daily use for a year - just managed to get the connector for the dell x50v so that I can continue to use the mount (originally had an ipaq connector). It is excellent - hasn't fallen off the screen and is strong enough to support the dell in landscape mode as well.

Of course if it isn't the haicoim unit then forget the above.

you canb view the haicom mount at globalpositioningsystems.co.uk - it looks identical.

Hi AlanK,

I like Brodit products, although you can probably tell that! Wink

I have a number of iPAQs (3970, 2210s, 4700s) and I have two vehicles. I have the Brodit Pro Clips in my vehicles, with the Brodit Move Clip system I can swap the Brodit Active or passive holders around to suit the vehicle and the iPAQs that I’m using.

As I already have a flexible Brodit solution, the gooseneck Haicom "Universal PDA Holder - Windscreen Suction Mount" was ideal. It does not wobble (at least not with a 2210) and with the Move Clip I can swap and change holders and thus iPAQs.

Regards,
