overview of personal navigation market

Does anyone have access to or knowledge of specific breakdowns of the personal navigation market? Specifically, I'm interested in the size difference between Europe and here in the US. Ideally, I'd like a breakdown by language as that seems to be the driving force of the European market.

I've found a couple of ghastly expensive professional analyses, but a good professional opinion would do just fine for my purposes (student paper).

what's a breakdown? If you can describe what you want in some more common terms then we may be able to help.

For starters, note the number of posts per forum - they give a very good indication of the power distribution by country

This site - UK
GPSpassion.com (french forums) - France
PocketNavigation.de - Germany

There is no equivalent of these sites in the US, but you can try the various Expansys forums.

Thanks for your quick response, Lutz. I'm interested in the size of the personal navigation market (either sales or units) as broken down by language or country - from which the language could be deduced. Overall, I know the market is much bigger in Europe than it is here in the US, but by how much? How quickly is the US market growing? If anyone can help with these figures, I'd really appreciate it, and I will check out Lutz's suggestion about the size of some other forums.

forget language - all important packages are multi-language. The ones that aren't are not major players.

(I would be VERY curious to see how you break down language by country)
