Are the maps on the CD-ROM with the MIO more up to date than what is in ROM? I ask because I have a week old machine and saw there was a GB map on the CD.
Thanks
Doug

The map on the cd is probably just a backup of what is on the ROM so you can reload it is the system screws up.

Unless someone knows differently?

I thought that might be so. Oh well. Its a shame Mitac only update their maps infrequently. I have a Mitac laptop and have never seen an updated Bios for it in two years of ownership. Hope they support this one a bit better.

Had the 268 just over a week now and the maps do appear to be somewhat outdated, the actually navigation of the thing seems somewhat iffy too tending to mostly keep to the A roads even when i know there is a quicker route avoiding lights/towns and such, some of the directions it gives can be late and it does seem to get itself confused telling me to do a U turn when i know im going the right way, the software did eventually sort itself out and get back on track but it could be annoying if you werent sure it is supposed to be there to help afterall, the inclusion of the mp3 player is nice and a reasonable amount of tracks can be stored on the 256mb card that came with it about 90mb or so free space, as i expected you only get what you pay for and this is no different, overall the price tag of £250 reflects the units quality i wouldnt say its too bad as i didnt expect it to be as good as units of a £400/500 price tag which is way too much for me to be spending on somthing i might use every now and then for longer journeys.

I have also noticed some areas where the mapping/instructions are not as good as the Tom Tom Go 300. For instance - instead of keep to the right, she says go right which on a motorway is not a good thing to do!
Other instructions are reasonable but the "where you are arrow" lags behind where you actually are. Perhaps I am asking too much of the program.
It would be nice to get updated maps more frequently, I understand Mio only update once a year. And do they charge you for those? Tom Tom updates are free. We'll have to see eh?
