Slow startup

I have been getting to grips with tomtom 5 on my spv c500. Main complaint is the very slow start up. I get in my car swith on the gps receiver, place it on the dashboard and then start tomtom on the phone. Sometimes it takes as long as 15 mins to get an up to date location on my phone. I don't think it is a signal strength problem as once connected there is no problem and full bar signal. Any ideas to improve this?

(sounds like) the gps receiver is forgeting everything when it is turned off?

when you turn on the gps and phone, go into preferences for the gps and see how long it takes for a signal, ( as in how many satellites you can see and how strong( if any) the signal is.

my guess is you will see none to start with.

ooorrrrr,

in the same place, when you start both, check to see if the info is saying "no gps receiver"

That's weird. I am suffering the same problem recently. Using the TTMv4 GPS unit with the newly delivered TTMv5 it can take up to 10 mins for my receiver to get a lock and when it does it usually is always full strength. I have no idea why but it is getting very annoying.

I am using the new mark II tomtom GPS receiver (the one that comes with a new purchase of tt5).

Still to try checking the signal settings in configuration. I think it just says no GPS signal. I think the delay is the gps receiver getting a lock as the green led is solid and everything starts to work eventually when the green led is flashing.

just wondering if you have a problem getting signals thru the widscreen

i assume if you dont get a look for 15 mins you have started driving and its trying to get a lock on the move

i have the same reciever and usualy get a lock in30 secs (i live in the country (no high buildings ))and have not had problems

I used to have a Audi A4 and it was never a problem. Now got a Ford Mondeo and do suffer from this. However, it is not all the time. I live in a town but certainly no high buildings.

some fords have heated front screens which can cause problems

try putting the reciever on the back shelf of the car and see if that helps
