Should I pay to unlock map of France or get new software

Wondering if anyone out there can help. Unfortunately I found this forum after deciding to purchase an Acer N35. I live in Northern Ireland and outside of Belfast City Centre Destinator 3 and the teleatlas maps are dire. My main reason for purchasing however was for travelling to the South of France in a few weeks time. I kind of got sucked in by the £230 price tag and now wish I'd bought the mitac mio 269 with full european mapping. I've had a squint through the various postings here and I understand my options are to buy a new memory card and pay $100 to get an activation code for a map of France which by all accounts isn't the greatest. If thats the best option then I'll have to take it but what I was really wondering was should I get rid of Destinator completely and install the latest possible version of TomTom? Does anyone know iwhat it would cost and if it works better in NI and has better French mapping?

Have you considered E-bay, there are one or two unlocked/registered european maps for sale for £20 at the moment, worth a thought?

Thanks I think I might do just that for starters. The other consideration is to buy or upgrade to Destinator PN UK and Europe for about £100. Problem is the clock is ticking for me and despite a couple of companies in the UK offering PN, none seem to have it in stock yet.
