Troubleshooting Tomtom/bluetooth GPS connections

Hi all
I've bought a BT-77 bluetooth GPS to go with my Dell X30 PDA running TomTom Nav 3 (on Win Mobile 2003SE). The GPS configuration is "NMEA 0183v2 9600" and it's pointed at the appropriate bluetooth com: port. Everything seems to work fine but every now and then the Navigator screen freezes - when I then go into the "GPS status" menu it appears to have lost contact with the device, showing no bars and the animated "....." has stopped.

In the "GPS" panel the correct settings are still there but sometimes when this problem occurs the tickbox next to the settings has become unticked (other times it remains ticked). If I re-tick the box, suddenly we're talking to the receiver again and everything's back as it should be.

Has anyone had similar problems?
I'm assuming it's not a bluetooth problem, as I'd expect the "select bluetooth device" screen to appear if we lost the signal. I'd guess it's not the receiver either, as re-selecting the device fixes the problem (so if it were the receiver I'd expect it to stay dead); but then maybe the receiver's crashing and coming back up by the time I've done this...

If anyone has any thoughts on this I'd appreciate it!
Does TomTom keep error logs that might tell me what's going on, or is there some software I can run on my PDA to monitor the bluetooth GPS and see if it's disapearing?
