like will the navman 1000 fit in a CF II slot? (seein as it is CF type I) might seem a trivial question.

and how are these host powered units compared to external power supplyed units?

which is the best one?

regards

Yes it will, all CF Type II slots are backwards compatible and will accept CF Type I devices. You cannot however use a CF II device in a CF I slot.

The problem with host powered units, eg CF cards are the Pocket PC's of today only have about 5 hours maximum power, and less if you have them on full backlight when walking out and about (which you will need to see the screen).

With this in mind, you can easily see the battery power of the Pocket PC reduced to around 2 hours. Now if you're using them in-car it's not an issue as you constantly charge the Pocket PC. There are other alternatives when hiking if that's what you're looking for by using battery extenders
