Hi All
I have had a quick read through some of the topics and found them useful however i have either missed something or its not there. What i need advice on is a pda that i can use as a gps both on a motorcycle and also in the car. I have been looking at compaq pda's, advice on which one that would do the job properly and if there are any waterproof holders for the pda for bike use and also if there are any motorcycly mounts available and finally if i got a compaq what would be the best match for gps. AS YOU CAN SEE I AM THE NEW BOY ON THE BLOCK so help would be gratefully received |

As you need it on a bike, I would say a 3870 or 3970 (as these have Bluetooth, and then use Emtac/Socket BT GPS. If you place the iPAQ in an Otterbox then it should be waterproof, not sure you you'd attach this though to the bike. You can then have the BT GPS in a pocket out of the way and hopefully waterproof. |

Personally, I use an iPAQ 3970 with Navman sleeve in the car/van, and a Garmin GPS V (just upgraded from 3+ which will be for sale shortly) on the motorbike. For biking, I like the fact that the Garmin can just tap straight from the battery without a dedicated PSU.

Strangely enough I was going to suggest the Garmin from a waterproof perspective, but it then means you've got to break the waterproof seal on most cases which then makes it not waterproof. With the EmtacBT you can place it in a pocket or in a pouch and you should still get a fix.
How do you keep the iPAQ waterproof ? |

Dave,
>> How do you keep the iPAQ waterproof ? <<
I don't have to, since I don't use it on the motorbike! Actually, that's not quite true, since I have used it on the bike, but I keep it in a map pocket (thin tankbag type thingy), which is where I also keep the Garmin.
