Is there anyway to do this? Can you convert the OS grid reference into GPS coordinates and then use this as an input into TT?

Thanks for input received

You have to use a conversion utility. GPSUtility http://www.gpsu.co.uk can do it, but it only runs on PCs.

I would like to input European UTM coords directly into TT, so that I can drive to mountain bike trailheads that I have found on a map.

At the moment I have to zoom in and pan around and try and match the roads on the display to the map.

TonyP,

Do you have a reference to the formulae for converting between GPS WGS84 and European UTM coordinates. I have been thinking about writing a utility program for the PC that would create TTN POI overlays from points specified in the GB OS system and it could be extended to accept European UTM values.

Generating TTN overlays directly from points in other coordinate systems would save having to transcribe the points from a conversion utility.

I had a link, but it seems to be dead now. UTM is a metric grid similar to OS, but different countries use different datums. French maps use WGS-84 while Belgium uses EUR-50

Thank you for the link. I will have a look at it.

I am just testing a mod to my WinOV2 program which will make TTN POI overlays from OSGB data and dump overlays in OSGB format. There is a small offset in the coordinates which is puzzling me at the moment.

I find a ggod way to convert is to use www.streetmap.co.uk, they have a conversion page. The cool part is using a gprs phone and a pocket PC to go to the site and put in a UK postcode, convert it to lat/lon and then enter it into Tomtom Navigator. This way I can navigate to a postcode which in rural areas works far better than entering a city and street.

Thanks for the streetmap link. I have now also found this http://www.anotherurl.com/mapping/OSGB_Convert.htm which is a VB app to do the conversion from Landranger (OSGB) coordinates to GPS Lon/Lat - very useful Smile

Graham,

I will soon have a version of WinOV2 which will accept OSGB coordinates. You will then be able to create TTN POI overlays on a PC from OSGB data and also extract POI overlay data into a text file with OSGB coordinates.

When it is finished I will ask Dave to put it in the Downloads area.
