Hi,

I have just bought a TomTom Go 300 and I was under the impression that the 300 (and 500/700) all came with the updated maps. Is this correct ? The reason I ask is that my Go 300 has a 128Mb SD card in with it and I thought the updated maps were on a 256Mb card.

Maybe I have misunderstood somewhere along the line. Can anyone enlighten me ?

As you can tell, I haven't installed anything yet. I just wanted to make sure before I did.

Thanks,
Kevin.

As I understand it mate the 300 dosn't come with major roads of Europe on, The map upgrade for the old GO the "classic" does hence it has a 256 card and I dont think the 300 come with a CD so you may have to buy MRO'E...hope that helps....

Hi Kevin,

You do have the latest Maps. For the GO 300 the maps provided are the GB maps (not including the Major Roads of Europe).

If you tap the bottom right of the screen where the sat signal strength is, then tap the Version 5.000 section of the screen. This will display the about screen.

You should have "Map: 'Great_Britain-Map' V562". This is the latest map.

The GO 500 will come on a 256MB card and will include the GB PLUS maps which include street level maps of GB merged with the Major Roads of Europe.

The GO 700 will come with fully connected street level roads of all of Western Europe.

Ah, thanks for the replies. That clears it up. I'm actually OK with just the GB maps as I never drive in Europe. I do, however, drive in the USA, so will be looking to purchase the USA maps (updated ?) when they become available.

Cheers,
Kevin.

Me too, i never drive in Europe, but tell me, does the TomTom Go '300' come with any Northern Ireland/Republic of Ireland maps??

Details on the TomTom website are a bit sketcy to say the least!

If it does'nt will we be able to buy them seperatly?

I haven't installed the maps yet, but i would certainly expect them to include Northern Ireland as it is part of the UK. If it doesn't then it's not a GB map, merely an English, Welsh, Scottish map.

As for Republic. I would be surprised if it did include them, again for the same reason, it's no more GB than France or Spain.

Mmmm...

United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

So a GB map only needs to include places on the big island on the right. (England, Scotland, Wales). The other place is at the top of the other island on the left. My friends in Norn Iron get annoyed when I get this wrong Laughing

The Go 300 does come with Northeren Iteland mapping, not Eire. Having said that the coverage does not seem to be that good. It is Belfast and major roads. Belfast seems to be covered at street level, but the rest of the province is pretty sparce.

Would the situation improve with the TomTom Go 500, or even 700 ?

Say if i bought the 500, with its major roads of Europe, could i buy Eire on seperate SD card or cd with the street level maps?

It seems a waste to buy the 700 just for the U.K and Eire maps. I know coverage of Eire is'nt that great, but its better than nothing! Rolling Eyes

Hi Mike
I take it that the GB upgrade will also be the plus maps as its on a 256MB card.

According to the TomTom site:
Quote:
Region maps contain the individual regional maps, fully connected to the major road network of Western Europe offering seamless cross border navigation across on one SD memory card.

The United Kingdom is Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Great Britain does not encompass Northern Ireland. Having said that, TomTom do have coverage in NI although it is limited.

Essentially no coverage of the Republic. There are some roads but what covergae exists is so basic and sparse as to be useless.
