Hello All.
I have just installed TomTom Mobile on my Motorbike.
The best place i can find to place the GPS receiver is on the fuel tank.
As the receiver is magnetic it holds on to the tank really solid.
Is this OK or will it give me a false reading as it is stuck to a big chunk of metal.

If anything it may actually boost the reception. don't worry, it will work fine

I put my GPS in the space under the pillion seat of my CBR and it works fine through the plastic and foam.

I did not think to try that,i thought it had to be exposed to get a good signal.
I will try it under the seat on my ZX7R.

hi guys, this is something I'm planning on doing when the retail version eventually comes out. I have a few Q's for you.
Mine will be used with an SPV C500, what kind of mount are you guys using to strap the phone to your bike?
Are you using TTM as a visual help or using a BT headset inside your helmet to listen as well? (actually does it even give audio over a headset?)
I won't be using mine solely for bike use so was planning on just keeping the receiver in my pocket, that won't be a problem will it?

Hello Sun.
I just use my 6600 in the black vinyl case,undo the velcro and wrap it around my screen brace do velcro back up,works fine.
Not sure about the headset.I would like to find that out aswell.Just using visual for now.
I have kept my receiver in my pocket when walking and not had a problem so it should be OK. |

Ha! I use the gripper part of a car vent mount which I attached to the headstock with some bungy cords. It doesn't work that well because the bungy cords go over top of the phone and obscure the screen. It doesn't matter that much because I normally use my Garmin on the bike with a RAM mount which works very well.
I don't usually bother with the voice because I found the wired hands free kit uncomfortable. Usually, I just keep an eye on the "distance to next turn" and the GPS gets my attention by switching the backlight on.

The GPS has to have a good view of the sky to work. If you are riding a sports bike (ie leaning forward) and you have the receiver in your front pocket then it might not work very well. Give it a try and see how you get on.
Stick it on the top of your helmet with some velcro would give the ideal sky view (though not 100% secure!). I put mine under the pillion seat, it works fine though plastic but any metal parts will disturb the signal.

thanks sparkyzx7r & skippy, that's answered my 3 questions for now, I'm reassured to hear that it works well from a pocket, I'm on a XR125L so I'm in an upright position. I'm sure there must be a bike mount out there but maybe I can just busk it like you two have. Whenever TT pull their finger out and release it anyway....

I start up tomtom on my 7610 and when its running I power up my jabra headset and it connects and I get the voice commands in my ear, the quality isnt as good as before as bluetooth is having to share bandwidth with the gps receiver but its usable.
On sort of the same theme I am after a mount for my mountain bike. |

| on my bike, i made a piece of card that the gps fits into, then put it into my map bag that goes round my tank, the magnet helps by holding thru the bag onto the tank, and that way it remains 100% dry and hasnt lost a connection yet |
