I purchased Copilot 5 shortly after its release. After a month I reverted back to TomTom for a number of reasons.

1) Complete lack of live traffic. although this is still being advertised as a feature "coming soon". How have TOMTOM and others been able to launch this and ALK have not.

2) Lack of turn instructions when compared to TOMTOM. For example "Keep in the left lane, then turn left"

3) POI Icons not being kept on the 3d display when in motion.

4) I have also found the 3D display unclear in certain circumstances.

As my CD has been on the shelf unused I for one will not be paying anything towards any further upgrades, unless CoPilot can prove they are listening to the user base.

So far, I have received no response from Dave or ALK concerning my new thread, CoPilot 5 database deficiencies. I appreciate that it is early days as far as that fault report is concerned.

However, in case it has anything to do with the email address I used, I should say that the email address that Dave specified in his thread, Announcement: CoPilot Live Bug Reporting, appears unusual and unusable. It is:

daveburrows_~@at~@_gmail.com

Because it would not work, I used Dave~at~daveburrows.com.

Posting somebody's email address on an open forum where it can be garnered by spamming robots is very impolite, and I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't respond to any of your complaints. His gmail address was rather-obviously altered to stop that, and most people would be able to spot the obfuscated bits to remove. Rolling Eyes

Dave,

I've sent the same pm to you twice now and had no response, the PM system on this board is slightly different than most other forums i use.
I appreciate you may be too busy to answer my questions fully and provide any help, but could you at least let me know you've received them?

The reason i'm asking is because after i click the submit button I get a confimation message saying message has been sent, but I've looked in the "sentbox" (which is where i'd presume it would be filed after sending) and it's empty, however the message is sitting in the "outbox" which to me means it's not getting sent? is that a logical assumption?

Regards,

Northernbloke

Iankb.

I now understand that Dave Burrows was in effect scrambing his email address to obstruct automatic email address trawls and thereby reduce spam etc. This is new to me and I have learned from it.

On the other hand, your discourtesy point does not stand scrutiny, not only because I wrote Dave Burrows's email address in full through unawareness, but also because it is and was in the public domain.

OK, I've now edited Dave's email address which PONDEROUS had published (in all innocence) and I also deleted PONDEROUS's double-posting and subsequent apology for same.

Northernbloke, the way PMs work is that you write and send them. Then they appear in your Outbox. Once the recipient has read a PM, it then appears in your Sentbox. This is the equivalent of a delivery receipt. It would appear that Dave hasn't (yet) read his PMs from you. When they 'move' from your Outbox to your Sentbox, you'll know that they have been displayed on his computer screen.

Thanks Tim,

guess u run a different system to the rest of the world here - thats the first time i've come across a setup like this (i'm a member of several GSM/Cellphone/Satellite TV etc.... forums and none of them use this pm method - so it is a little confusing to see stuff apparently "sent" still in the"outbox" rather than "sent" - but it' s not my trainset - i'm just a passenger.

Hopefully Dave's too busy to respond cos he's busy overseeing the repairs and bug-fixes to CP5 Laughing

Well we can but hope, cheers anyway,

Regards,

Northernbloke

Good Job TT5 Navigator is out now, either ALK sort out the probs or i'm cutting my losses and buying it, tried my m8's new kit today and it's very nice indeed, i'm actually seriously jealous of it!!!!!!!!!

Nor is it mine really. It confused the hell out of me until someone explained it to me. Still, in retrospect I like it. It tells you who is here for real and who is here for mischief. For instance, I still have eight messages in my Outbox, three of which I wrote in January!

I’ve never had any problems with CP5 its always worked ok but obviously this would be dependant on where you drive maybe if I drove the same route where others had problems I would experience them to, I do wish the maps would look more like TT as they do look boring to look at

As has been clearly stated many times previously, the personal opinions of a reviewer are just that. We have discussed this at ever increasing length and it remains clear that some have issues and some do not.

A polite discussion of the issues is welcomed but personal attacks and insults are not. The CoPilot threads are the only ones were these occur and whilst I appreciate that the issues some experience have angered them, attacking personalities is neither constructive nor condonable. If we cannot act responsibly when posting then I will begin locking threads and banning persistent offenders.

I agree, personal attacks are not the answer, and they won't resolve any issues.

However, you have to ask yourself why people feel so angry that they descend to insults out of sheer frustration.

As has been said many times before, ALK, and now Dave Burrows being the most high profile ALK employee we all know, is unfortunately going to get the brunt of the anger. Particularly with ALK's abysmal customer services, and their complete lack of acknowledment that any kind of problem exists at all.

It seems that we must all exist in some sort of parallel universe and not the utopian one where ALK live. Laughing

I don't want to labour this unnecessarily, particularly as I am one who has come in for many of these attacks. However, I do think that the quality of what has been written by senior forum team members and their impartiality (or apparent lack of it) is an issue that cannot merely be swept under the carpet.

I certainly agree that gratuitous insults towards an individual, including the former team member concerned, are unacceptable, but I do think that you need to be careful to distinguish between those insults and valid complaints about material written by him. That material served to defeat the objective of this forum and, since it came from the very top of the forum, seriously impaired the forum's reputation.

It was said of your predecessor when he was in your chair, Darren, that he came across as very protective of ALK, and similar. I am sure that you appreictae the need not to fall into a similar trap and be seen as overly protective of a former colleague.

I am not so sure about that.

It is unfortunate that Lutz has to perpetuate the unprofessional standards that this forum needs to abandon. Still, hopefully, there is someone with some authority on the forum team that will try to understand that there has to be a limit when sticking up for one's friends.

When will we see the reassurance that this forum has moved on?
