Mio 168 & tomtom software

I'm in the process of getting a Sat nav system & can't really make up my mind.
In some stores you can pay extra to have the Tomtom software put on the Mio 168 by the store at a price Rolling Eyes

but is it hard work loading the software on or is it worth the ( I think ) £19.99 to have it preloaded on.

It's easy to install the software yourself to your PDA (Pocket PC)

Although 20 quid isn't a lot to have it pre-installed for you, if things go wrong, such as the battery going flat, then you will either have to attempt to re-install it yourself or pay someone to do it again for you.

I would not pay but take the time to learn to do it yourself from day one.

I think I will install myself.
If I can reinstall windows on the PC with all my software then it can't be that bad.

I agree with icsys. Although I originally wished I had paid to have it all pre-installed, on reflectiion it was a good learning curve to do the lot from scratch. At least by installing it yourself, you get to know it inside out - and have a reservoir of experience to call on if (hopefully not) things go wrong later.

Just one bit of advice. Even an experienced hand at software/windows installation could well benefit from some of the advice offered in user reviews of the Mio and TT3 here before going ahead with installation

As said in the reviews the settings to load it on you would not find easy.But I can see what your saying with regards to loading it on yourself & learning about it in the process but the thought of HOURS loading it on concerns me Confused

I did get told that if you buy the Mio with Tomtom 3 now you would be able upgrade to Tomtom 5 for free when available but after recieveing an email from Tomtom saying "There will be no free upgrades this year to Navigator version 5. Navigator version 5 for the Pocket PC should hopefully be coming out some time next month" ,So therefore I have time to make my choice Laughing

i agree install it yourself.i had no previous experience of sat nav(or pdas for that matter)and found installing tom tom 3 on my mitac mio168 was fine and as said before you gain useful knowledge doing it yourself, expecially if u need to reinstall in the future.

Is it best to unistall the preloaded Nav software first (Thats if you do get a Nav software with it ???)
