Hello, I am a new ICN 510 user and want to ask, when and how does a user of the 510 get the updates to street maps? Is it a case of buying a whole new set when they are released? Or can you get an update as it becomes available and pay a fee to update your current maps on the current memory card, maybe via a usb internet cable, etc.

Sorry if this is answered elsewhere but I am new to all this...

What do you mean by an update?? Updates in the mobile map world mean a new set of 2-3yr old maps purchased out right.

Yes that is what I mean. I would think that the maps are updated regularly. If you are already an owner of the 510 do you have to buy a complete set of maps on CD everytime they are released (I would guess yearly, yes?) and buy a new card to load them all on, or can you just get an update to the ones you had when you bought the item in the first place? if you do have to buy a complete set of new maps each time they are updated it seems crazy that you would have to shell out the full cost of the CD's. If you do the fine, but I just wanted to know!! Hope you all can clarify it for me Smile

I think you'll have to buy a complete set of new CDs. Bare in mind that mobile maps (those for electronic devices such as the 510) usually lag behind printed maps by as much as 2-3 years. Also know that the emaps aren't offered on a regular bases. I'm not sure what Navman's schedule is. I think the current maps are from 2003, not sure.

V3 maps are from 2004 Q1. Navman tends to release new maps and software once a year.

Are Map updates & software payable at full cost or do owners get a discount Question

I don't think being a past customer will make much difference for discounts. You'll probably be better off shopping prices at various dealers.
