Etrex Summit and Autoroute

Help please....I know someone has asked this question before BUT I can't find it on the forum.....I've got a lead for my summit and Autoroute 2001 but all the GPS options in autoroute are greyed out so I can't do anything with them.How can I use them together? I'm new(ish) to the GPS world,all help advice gratefully recieved.(Oh yeah the lead I have is NOT a usb one ut a 9 pin "D" type)
