Well I have just tried this WAV file http://getz1.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/klaxon2.wav and I have not been out on the road, but in simulation mode it all works fine. I am unsure how my ICN 510 with SmartST 2005 will react in busy areas.

Time will tell.

I take it, to remove Klaxon sound all you have to do is remove the WAV file from my memory card?

Thanks

antsm1974,

When I take the new "default.wav" file out of the mypoi folder, the original "chime" sound is restored.

Hope this helps

Geoff

OK, has anyone done this with a 510 and can confirm (before I try it and mess up the Navman) that not only will the warning for speed camera now be "Warning Gatso" or whatever, but that the normal voice directions for navigation still function correctly as well.

The differing information from various contributors is starting to get a bit confusing for simple souls like me!

This thread shows that some success is being achieved with putting a voice warning on to 510's.

I have not seen anyone reporting that there has been success with putting a different warning on to a 520.

As I reported earlier in the thread, I tried it on my 520 and failed.

filgreen,

As you can see from my forum rank and number of posts, I'm a total newbie to all of this satnav malarky.

I bought the 510 from Tesco's 2 weeks ago when it was on offer for £159 and was pleased to read the posts that indicated that I could install TomTom on it as that was the only satnav stuff I'd used.

I've not been brave enough to try installing TomTom, but I have to say that I don't know if I'll bother as I've grown to like the Navman software. I does exactly what I want it to do and hasn't got me lost yet.

Mine is running SmartST version 3 and by placing a custom .wav file in the mypoi folder on the SD card, I can confirm that the normal voice instructions work along with the custom warning sound.

Perhaps the problems lie with 510's that are running SmartST 2005 or with 520's ?? Can't comment on that, but I can state that it works on mine.

I would say give it a try, you don't need to launch SmartST, you just plug it in via USB and insert the new .wav file via active sync. Disconnect the 510 and try it with "demonstrate route" enabled and you will find out if it works. If not, simply delete the .wav file from the mypoi folder and you should be back to normal.

As with anything like this, I guess a backup of the contents of your SD card would be a good idea before you have a go, but I have an SD card back up anyway, just in case of "problems" !!

Ok, I must be missing something.

Downloaded the warning voice files and stored them in My POI.

I then searched every folder on the storage card but could find no file relating to sound or .wav. Definitely no .wav files in Sound folder (empty) or My POI. So I renamed one of the new sound files now in My POI as default.wav, ran a Demonstration Route and it just worked as before with instructions and warning chimes.

Any ideas anyone??

not sure what's happened there but I simply changed the name of the "new" warning sound file to "default.wav" and put it in the "mypoi" folder on the storage card via active sync and it's worked ever since !!

This is most wierd how some work and some don't ??

My 510 is def running SmartST V3 plus any other updates (Ithink there might have been one??)

Good luck

I've been doing some experiementing with different warning sounds and it seems as if the length of the sound "might" have something to do with the 510's ability to play the custom sounds without interfering with the voice guidance.

I tried an "alarm clock" type of sound and it made the voice guidance play back at double speed?? I then tried a "chord" type sound and it made the 510 sound like a dalek and then just made a series of clicks and buzzes??

I currently have a "duck quack" on the unit which goes "quack quack" when it gets close to a camera - this works fine and does not interfere with the voice directions at all.

When I removed the custom sounds, the default "chime" is very quiet, not sure I could live with that now??

The only thing that concerns me now is that I want to buy the SmartST2005 update from Navman and I'm worried that it will render the custom sounds unusable??

Is there anyone with a 510 and SmartST2005 that is able to use custom warning sounds??
