POI Warnings in TTG

Hi All,

Apologies for starting a new thread about this, but I cannot find a simple answer to this.

At the moment, I use TomTom Navigator 3 on my PDA and have the Pocket GPS Speed Camera database on with CheckPOInt 3.2 running which suits me down to the ground. I have never had any need to get anything different. After having his picture taken yet again in his car, my dad now wants some sort of GPS based speed camera detector for his car. I've looked into all the stand alone speed camera detectors and they all seem ridiculously expensive for what they do together with the update subscription compared to how much TTG costs. I think TTG is the best for him as he is competant with technology, but would not be bothered with a PDA installation.

Having not seen much of TTG, I just wondered how easy it is to set up audiable alerts to forthcoming POIs and how easy to update the POI files? I assume they would go on the SD card? How do you set up the alerts (i.e. is it by distance to the POI or by time based on your present speed?). Is a TTG 300 sufficient for this (he doesn't need handsfree bluetooth etc), or is a 500 more ideal?

The TTG is easy to set up for the cameras. When you connect TTG to your computer with the USB lead it will appear on the PC as a removable drive with all the content files visible.

Download the camera files from the web (free download - updated monthly) and drag and drop them into the appropriate map folder on TTG. Disconnect TTG and it's done.

You may need to "enable" them on the TTG by ticking the box of the ones you want to see. You then set up the warning distance and choose the warning sound.

The speed cameras are now available in groups for each speed, so you can set longer warning distances for the higher speed cameras.

Not sure what size SD card will come with the new models and how much spare capacity is available for download once the maps are on. The current TTG is tight for space - OK if you delete some foreign voices.

The biggest drawback I found with the TTG warnings is that you only get the one warning tone before the POI, where as with my PDA and checkpoint I could set two warnings at different distances, but having said that I would never go back to my PDA and TTN now having used TTG, for me the added convenience of TTG and stability of the unit far outwieghs loosing one extra warning.
TTG is easy to set up for POI warnings, and also much louder than my PDA (dell axim) ever was.

If you change the name of the speed camera PoIs you can load them again as many times as you want with a different name each time and set different warning distances for each.
