Hi all,
I did post this in the "Biginners Lounge" but got no response so I hope one of you advanced guys can help....
I have a Navman 510, and although it does it's job very well I want to be able to design routes on my PC and transfer them to the GPS. This is not possible with my current unit, and it does not "import" Autoroute files either.
So, bearing mind that it's for use on a sports motorcycle as well, what should I be looking for ? I currently have Autoroute, so either something that imports these files or has software with the ability to design routes on the desktop is what I'm looking for.
I need to get it fairly soon, so please, any advice would be appreciated. _________________ Completely lost in the world of GPS

Nothing that will run on your 510 will let you do this as far as I know. What you could do, using Autoroute, is make a route using pushpins (you could number them 1 to 14 for ease in the second part) and then save the .axe file.
Use Oldie's POIConverter to convert the .axe file to a .csv file and strip (or REM) out the top line using Notepad as you would any other .csv file.
Use your Navman Desktop to import the .csv file to your iCN using POIEditor and then use the Trip planner within SmartST to plan your route. If you've numbered your waypints 1 to 14 as suggested, you can easily build a route using that order and save it.
I know it's long-winded but it's the best I can come up with. _________________ Tim |

Thanks Tom, I'd consider another GPS set up that would work with Autoroute if you could suggest one....

Can't think of one, I'm afraid. I don't think you can transfer Autoroute routes into PocketStreets, anyway. I have an iPAQ, Garmin GPS10 and Garmin Mapsource CitySelect which does exactly what you want. I believe that Co-Pilot software also has this function. _________________ Tim |

I wouldn't recommend CoPilot, it is buggy as hell.
If you are considering buying a completely new GPS unit, then have a look at the Garmin Quest or StreetPilot 2610 - they are waterproof and work well on the bike. They come with a Mapsource program which is much like Autoroute which you can use on your PC to create routes and upload them, download tracks from the GPS and manage waypoints.
The main problem with the Garmin is that it doesn't do speed camera alerts. _________________ Gone fishing! |

Alturion GPS Software has a desktop navigation software package as standard as well as the PocketPC version (with Alturion Standard and Alturion Professional only)
This software runs on your PC and allows you to export routes to your PocketPC.
You can then also share or email these routes to others.
