Does anyone know the "capture" range for the different types of speed camera?
Based on that, what would be the recommended distance warning setting for each camera when setting them up under the "Warn when closer than" section?
Even if there isn't a definitive answer it would still be interesting to hear about other users settings - there might be an average somewhere.
Thanks in advance.

Hi UKEds,

Welcome to the forum! Thumbs Up

Mobile cameras that use laser have a theoretically range of around 1 km. Fixed cameras (Gatso and Truvelo) have a much shorter range.

I like to have a good advanced warning of speed cameras, so I have GPSAssist set to warn me at 400 meters and then again at 200 metres.

I have the warning for mobile sites set at 800 meters and then again at 400 metres.

Regards,

I was unaware that you can set warnings for two different distances.

Can you please explain how this is done, as I have set my "mobile camera" to 900 yards, but how do I get it to remind me at 500 yards?

This is how I would set it up to warn at two separate distances.

Let's say it's a 30mph Gatso
Put in the ov2 and Bitmap Image for Gatso.
That will alert you to any Gatso and is not conditional on the speed setting for that particular camera.
Set it to warn at 650 yards.
Now put in the ov2 and Bitmap Image from the Speed Zoned folder which covers 30mph Gatsos and set that for 450 yards.
Now you will have two warnings at two different distances.
The above distances are only examples, set the distances to what ever you find best (which is the subject of my main question here anyway)

You can't in TTG, there is only 1 speed setting per POI category

It could be very confusing and you stand the risk of exceeding the limit of 40 POI categories.

Ok but given that the overlays are now putting 2 POI at each location, which will show up on the TTG screen; the camera symbol or the red circle/speed symbol?

If you untick the Show on Map you can still use the Warn when Near.

So if you untick the basic Gatso POI but leave the zoned files ticked, you will only see the red circle and the speed.

At 10mph, you travel 22.35m in 5 seconds. Based on 10secs warning if you're travelling at the limit (and therefore at least 5secs even if you are going insanely fast), I'd therefore suggest:

89m for 20mph (22.35 x 2 x 2)
134m for 30mph
179m for 40mph
224m for 50mph
268m for 60mph
313m for 70mph

If you prefer a different amount of time or would prefer to assume the maximum speed you are likely to be travelling in each type of zone, you can always do the math yourself with the first sentence of this post as a starting point.

Is there a limit on numbers of POI files?

I loaded the six standard file pairs (bmp and ov2) for the non-speed zoned and set them to warn at a particular distance.

It then seemed to me that if I loaded the 2nd set of speed-zoned files and set them to a slightly different distance then I'd get two warnings. So I loaded the additional 13 file pairs and set the "Show" ticks OK, but when I came to set the "Warn...." info I couldn't configure two of them, even though they could be seen in the list.

Regards,
Rich

There's a limit of 40 of your own PoI groups.

Are there any plans to increase the number of POI categories with V5?
