TomTom 5 and TomTom 2004

I noticed on the review about TomTom 5 here http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/tomtom-navigator-pda-5.php
it doesnt mention anything about upgrading 2004 versions of TomTom.

Does anyone have any idea what will happen with this upgrade? How much will it cost or will it be free?

TomTom haven't released details of that yet. Some indications are that it will be free, others not. I think they have yet to make up their mind!

If it is paying (which is hope not) cna you just get the software or can you only buy the software with the GPS unit?

If you already own a licence to the software I expect they will do a software only upgrade. They always have in the past.

The position remains somewhat confused. It looks as if those with Navigator 2004 will get a free software upgrade, though that free upgrade probably won't include any new maps and may not enable the new postcode functionality (as that may require the new maps).

As has been stated already in this thread, TomTom have yet to announce the details of the upgrade offers. Historically, their chargeable upgrades (which include new maps) have been pretty reasonably priced at around £40 by the time they hit your credit card (TomTom bill in Euros).

When we have details, we'll bring them to you.

If the upgrade is free but you have to pay for maps what is part of the upgrade?

Is it just tweaks to the engine or something?
