I know this is a bit of topic but I have question.
I want to buy the MIO 268 or 269 and I'm hoping some one can tell me if the TOM TOM NAVIGATOR 3 program will work on them?
And if it will, then how would you install it (I mean do you install the program and the maps on to the SD card?)
Most grateful for any help, as I don’t know dam about these things
Thanks |

It won't. The Mio 268/269's are closed systems that will not run any software other than that supplied.
I tried installing TTN3 on the MDPNA150 and although it installed (these aren't closed) it wouldn't launch possibly because of the landscape display and WinCE.Net OS. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks for replying Darren.
The reson I asked that queston is becouse yes the mio 269 comes fully loaded with the nav program and map on the hard disk from which it runs of, so I geuss that is closed.
1) but the mio 268 runs its prgram from the sd card apart from its os which is installed in the unit. so thats why I thought that if its nav program and maps are running from the card then what if I just swaped the card with one that has the TTN3 installed on it.
2) As for the OS software bean diffrent, then how about loading a plam verson of TT3 on it. I dont know if I have got my facts right, thats why am asking you guys.
what do you guys think about my two questons and possible anserws.
Thanks again. |

It ain't gonna work! Although the 268 has maps installed on SD, the application itself is still installed to internal memory as it is with the 269, only the map data is stored on SD/ CF HDD.
For any alternative applications to work they would have to be able to install correctly and for this to work they would have to be written with the 268/269 in mind. As the 268/9 do not use ActiveSync then applications would fail to install at the first hurdle.
You cannot install the Palm version for the above reasons as well as the fact that it is intended for PalmOS and not WinCE.
Even where you able to get TTN3 installed it would not run as WinCE lacks the necessary GAPI display driver and TTN3 is not landscape aware either.
Sorry, I too agree that these units would make an ideal platform for TomTom but you'd be far better off buying a GO or hoping that TomTom produce a new version! _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks again Darren
I'm sorry about all the stuped questons.
like i said I dont know any thing about handhelds/gps stuff, just a bit about desk top pc's.
it's just a real crying shame that mio didn't go down the ttn3 route with this one as they did with the 168, the 269 would be so good with ttn3 or tt-go running on it and the rest of the memory space used for adio books. 8)
Thats an thought what about Tom tom go software. a frend of mine has the tom tom go unit and am sure he would lend me his cd's just to try out for software compatablty. but if you are sure that this is no go then it's not worth braking the seals on is cd's
Heres other thought is there a way for us to change the main os on the mio 268 /269, i mean like on a normal pc you would fdisk the hard drive and then install the new os software. maybe using the usb cabe to link the mio to a pc.
btw. is there any review of the mio 268/9 nav software compaired to ttn3 software.
sorry about all the stuped questons again
A big thanks. |
