I have a hp 4150 with bluetooth. However I am more inclined to buy a wired gps unit than a bluetooth gps.

Why?

With a wired unit I could get it hardwired to the car rather than using the fag lighter. I could then have the wires attached to the PDA holder (which would have a built in speaker) all the time.

The wire to the gps would be hidden under the dash and the gps unit by the front of the window screen.

So now all I would have to do is attach the PDA into my cradle and turn the ignition on and away I go.

Would the above be better than how I think the bluetooth system would work, below.

Charge bluetooth unit at home/work. Take into car with PDA. Slot PDA into cradle and turn on bluetooth link. Turn on gps and sync with pda. Then attach GPS to required location in car. Battery will then run out on the gps in about 15 hours so I will keep having to remove gps from car to charge and the unit will probably die in about 6 to 12 months anyway so I will have to buy a new unit.
I then have to turn my bluetooth signal on my pda again.

Everyone says that the bluetooth is the way to go, but to me it just seems to much to keep setting up.

All I want to do is plug my pda into the cradle and turn on the nav software and go.

What do you think? Please help me before I spend me money.

Thanks.

If you are absolutely certain that you will really really ever only use it in car then go for wired. As soon as you have the slightest doubt, go for BlueTooth.

I went through the same thought process myself. I liked the idea of bluetooth but as nice as it is it still needs a wire to power it, in the case of the tomtom bluetooth unit this is as a wire from the car kit,, so bascially it's exactly the same as the wired version but adds bluetooth unreliability to the mix! I went with the wired version.

Bluetooth IS the way to go! Example: you run out of petrol in a strange location. Using bluetooth you can use your PDA to walk to the nearest filling station, even if it's a couple of miles away in a town you've never visited before. And as for throwing the receiver away in a year's time when it dies; that would only be true of some Mickey Mouse brand where replacement batteries were unavailable. I've used the Fortuna bluetooth for 9 months, virtually every day, sometimes to find four or five addresses in one day, and it has never failed me yet. battery life is over seven hours with continuous use.

Hope this helps your decision making.
