Hi all

I have today used my new TT3 Navigator setup in anger for the very first time on my 40 mile route into work. This is a route I have travelled for the last 15 years so not one that I need satnav for - but at least it gives me an opportunity to "test" its performance before I use it on more less known routes.

I was well impressed but at the same time do have couple of issues.

The software did not elect to use the route that I would normally use and instead sent me a different route. Not surprising really as after 15 years you do tend to find a few shortcuts. However, some of the directions did tend to follow some particularly tortuous routes, especially within town centre areas. At least once you stray from the prescribed route the software does automatically recalculate from your present location. I presume the software favours major roads - even if it involves a significant deviation from what would otherwise be a more direct route. Is there any way to override this?

On one of the occassions that I did take an alternative route from that suggested, the system recalculated the route and then tried to send me down what was a farm track (bridleway) in order to get me back on the more major road.

Is it possible to "edit" the maps to remove/block such roads if they are obviously not meant for road traffic?

I also discovered that my car speedo is reading about 10% in excess of what the GPS device tells me. Is this normal? Which should I trust?

Chris

You can set an avoid on an area in the map screen. It stays there until you clear all avoids or delete that one individually.

The software normally favours the quickest route so it will choose a 60mph road over a 20 mph road. You can influence the selection of roads by changing the speed for each type of road. You can also select the shortest route as your preferred method of routing.

The TT GPS speed is more accurate that your car speedo, although remember it is an average speed taken over a 1 second interval.
