GPS co-ordinate Conversion.

Can someone help to please explain how to convert GPS co-ordinates, there
does seem to be so many.

I have the co-ordinates in the following format, how would i convert them
into something else that my GPS Tomtom software understands.

Is there a program that will convert these for me automatically, either on
XP or preferably Pocket PC.

The co-ordinates i have are 3096.381 (LAT) and 3.629 (LONG)

I take it these "coordinates" are taken from the NMEA data stream.

Here is how you convert them to real Lat/Lon

you have ddmm.mmmm,N(S),dddmm.mmmm,E(W) in the NMEA stream

To use them in TomTom you need

(-)dd.dddddd,(-)ddd.dddddd

To get there you need to calculate dd+(mm.mmmm/60)

Your latitude information looks strange, though, 96 is too high, it can't be more than 59.9
