I was having trouble loading the speed camera database under 6.5.4, I kept getting "The SD card inserted in your mobile device is not the one contained in the original pack" error.
I uninstalled then reinstalled the software per the FAQ.
I updated it to 6.5.4 and I got the error again.
I then used the trouble shooting feature in content manager to try to delete my POI's. That didn't cure the problem.
I then decided to restore the SD card. About 10 minutes into that, I canceled the update. Content manager had no problem with that.
Then I uninstalled the software again - ooops. The SD card was empty, I now get an error saying no maps found when I start the 980.
When I try to reinstall the software, same problem, the content manager won't install as the SD chip is empty.
This note is a warning to others not to go down this road, if at all possible.
If you happen to know how I can get content manager to restore my chip, that'd be wonderful. I leave for Italy on Saturday and have little hope Mother Michelin will get back to me.

Hope you managed to fix it.
The lesson is if you start an SD restore DO NOT cancel it.
If you can get the software to load then start the restore again. If you already have 6.5 installed you only need the 6.5.4 update to load Luxemburg POI onto it at the moment.

If you can't get the software to even load you maybe struggling to get your GPS working again as ViaMichelin may need to send you a new SD card. Otherwise have a look in the program folder on your PC and see if you can see a RestoreSD.exe file you maybe able to get the restore going without loading the software.

Good Luck

When you were trying to install the speed camera db are you sure you downloaded the correct one?

I got the same message when I first did it. Turned out that I wasn't paying attention when I downloaded the database. I downloaded the one correct for my device, but not for my maps. Once I downloaded the correct one it installed with no problem.

I'm also surprised you can't reload. One of the first things I did was to put the original SD in a safe place and load a nice new (super fast) sandisk SD.

Which SD card did you buy and have you noticed any speed difference on the GPS itself with a faster card?

I got the SanDisk Extreme III Secure Digital (SD) Card - 1GB

It cost about £13. I never tried the original card so can't compare. One thing I can say is that my Viamichelin x-970t recalculates quicker than my old TomTom one v2 did.

I called Michelin tech support in the UK and Lola told me I should take the device back to the shop and ask them to have the SD flashed again.
We called the shop to see how long this might take and was delighted to find out the the repair shop is in our city in Switzerland. I thought it might have to go to France or the UK. I dropped it off and the tech said he may be able to get it back to me by Friday, I will know more later.

Lola said there is no other method - the uninstalled software requires the maps on the SD chip for reinstallation. The tech said it is tightly controlled and flashing the unit is simple, but the paperwork is a killer, for piracy reasons.

Interestingly, I told Lola I'd buy the new maps on a fresh SD as advertized on their web site. She said the backlog is huge and it would take weeks to get one. So I guess ViaMichelin is selling lots of these. Naturally, I didn't need to do this.

Cheers,
JGS

Just reread your post. The first time I mis-understood and thought you were trying to reload the SD card.
I can see why you had the problem in your situation. Not only did I create a backup of the SD card. I also installed the software on a second PC so hopefully something similar won't happen to me.

I tried to install the software on another PC but fell at the registration screen as I needed to re-register my device?

When you get to the part of the install where it asks you to activate your product the screen has a large number on it, a button in the middle with "connect to the internet" and then a field for entering you activation code.

Copy the number and then login to your account on the viamichelin site.

Click on 'My Viamichelin' then 'My GPS Services' On the left of the screen under 'My GPS' there is a link called 'List of your products' click that and then the button 'send activation code' paste the number you copied earlier and you will get your activation code to continue the installation.

Shinymera - If I read this correctly, you did copy the maps to the SanDisk Extreme III Secure Digital card. How did you do that? With the content manager via the trouble shooting section?

Yep I just put in the new card and used viamichelin's content manager's restore SD option.

Has anyone still have the original telephone number for VM technical help please? They have now, it seems, gone over to a 0870 (a NGN) and my telecom provider does not allow me to call those numbers under my pricing plan. Thanks
