I got my Ipaq last Christmas and after the first excitement was gone, it really have just been laying around. Now my wife wants one more Christmas wish and I figured I finally could use the Ipaq if I got it in my car as a part of a GPS navigation system.
I want her to give me the GPS receiver (I will look into software later).
I found a Haicom CF here http://www.buygpsnow.com/item.aspx?itemid=386 for only $89.95, but I am not sure:
1. if any GPS receiver will work with any navigation software
2. if a CF GPS is the right thing to get
3. what quality Haicom is
4. if there are any better deal or suggestion

I am sure the pocket pc will stay hooked up in the car most of the time, but it would be nice if I could carry it with me also.

Please let me know your opinion and experience.

1) yes
2) difficult question. CF may be on par with BT for outdoors use, it's inferior for in-car use (bbut it still works)
3) Average (few complaints)
4) Think about a BlueTooth GPS, for example the DeLorme BlueLogger, my personal favourite.

Wouldn't it be more of a pain with Bluetoots since you will have two batteries to keep charged?
If I get a CF I will just leave my Ipaq plugged in all the time.

That's a fair point, especially for in-car usage. But you may be unlucky with the reception - due to tinted windscreen or other obstacles - where a BT receiver has less problems. Many cars also have power sockets in the trunk, so you can leave the BT receiver plugged in all the time, too.

Thanks for the help.
I took the chance and went with a GlobalSat BC-307 CF. I got it on ebay for $93 including shipping.

Now to the software 8)
