I need an external antenna for a 510.

Haven't seen one on the navan store for this model yet, and before I go spending lots of dosh, is there any 3rd party offerings?, saw loads on the maplin site, but what fits both in terms of signal improvement, and physically plugging into the socket provided.

Suffering long TTFF due to coated screen, and would like to get a gps fix when indoors at PC

You should be able to use any proprietary external antenna as long as it fits the ext antenna socket. MMCX I think?

I believe that the iCN510 has a female MMCX socket, so you'd need an antenna with a male MMCX plug to fit. As to what is compatible, I bought an external antenna from eBay for my Navman sleeve and BT unit (they both have an MCX socket) and it performs perfectly with both of them. Here's one, the rest appear to ship from Singapore. If you dont fancy eBay, a visit to somewhere like Navcity will get you one, too.

There is, however, an issue with the Navcity antenna.
In order for it to work correctly, the unit has to have a fix before the antenna is plugged in. Thus, for cars with athermic windscreens, the fix has to be obtained outside the car, and then the antenna plugged in quickly, once inside the car.
Not ideal, but this issue will be solved when Navman branded antennas are made available in the New year.

It could be a function of the iCN, rather than NavCity's offering, which requires the "Fix before connecting" thing. My third-party external antenna is more often than not plugged into my Navman sleeve or BT unit before even switching them on, let alone ensuring I have a fix before connection.
