Hi Forum, I really hope someone can put me on the right track in my efforts finding a solution to my problem with my BC-307 CF GPS. It has stopped working and no matter what I do I canīt bring it back to life.

After some beginnerīs struggling I finally got it to work with the ViaMichelin MapSonic v. 1.3 software in my HP jornada running Pocket PC v.3.0.11171. It worked just fine for almost a week but then, during driving it just stopped working and since then there is no sign of life when I try to get it working again. Iīm not sure (I was concentrated on driving...) but it may be that it stopped working due to low battery power.

When it was still working the red LED came on when I started the MapSonic software but now the LED lits up as soon as the GPS is plugged into the PDA. The red light is just as strong as when it was still working. However it does not help to activate/deactivate in MapSonic. -NO GPS- it says at the status bar at the bottom.

If I start GPSInfo (Haitest?) that came with the BC-307 nothing happens when I press Start GPS except that the button switches to Close GPS but nothing else happens. If I then press Cold Start the text $PSRF ...OK is displayed in the text field. When the GPS was still working this field contained lots of info. I guess it was the NMEA data stream or whatever it is called. COM Port field says COM2 CF_Card-Generic and baud rate 4800. These are the settings I had when it was working. The Haitest tab displays no values.

After searching forums on this site I downloaded Winfast Navigator in order to try a Factory reset or whatever else there was to try in that software. When I press Connect I get a message saying Couldnīt open the Modem COM2: port!

Modem? Why does it say Modem? I donīt get it.... Well, anyway, it does of course not get any values since it obviously does not recognize the CF Card. If I press Port setting... the NMEA radio-button is checked and port says Modem COM2: No changes here help. The Tools/Command... menu is greyed out when using COM2.

If I change COM port to COM1 I can access the Tools/Command-menu but I see no point in changing the settings under Reset Mode since there obviously is nothing to find on COM1. I tried of course but nothing happens.

Can someone please give me a hint of what to do to make the BC-307 CF GPS work again? Thank you!

It sounds like your GPS has got stuck in SiRF binary mode.

Soft reset, then try various speeds in Winfast Navigator with SiRF mode selected in the port settings. Hopefully one will 'find' your GPS, at which point you can use the Command option to switch the GPS back to NMEA at 4800.
