Hi AlfieB

Thanks for the post - I hadn't noticed the update had been posted.

I've downloaded and installed it - and the startup time is now much much faster! Just a few seconds with most of the UK on the memory card (I've left the on board memory empty apart from the speech files.

In the process I've managed to get Dutch language as well!

Must admit I would have been well miffed if I'd bought V2 only a month ago and was being asked to buy V3 as well. I would have said 6months would be reasonable for a free update and upto 12months for a reduced cost one.

The answer is 42. Now what is the question?

If the answer really is "They Won't" then that's completely out of order as its clearly stated in the help pages for SmartSTV2 (Pocket PC) that updated maps will be available at a cost (and as I've already said, I was led to believe that cost would be circa £30)

To pre-empt the expected reply: -
If they're going to say that the cost is £80 (which is extortionate for an update!) then that means that the actual V3 software must be free - in which case, where can we download that only?

Good morning Radiomotme

Back in the dim distant past I can vaguely remember a similar discussion when V2 came out. I've just spent some time trying to look through the old threads but can't find anything. The free upgrade was I believe for 'Registered iCN630 Users' and was for a limited timescale only.

At that time Navman tended to describe the 630 as their Flagship and the majority of us paid over a £1000 for it. After the cut off date then you had to pay £199.00 for the software package Sad .

How it was applied to PPC users I'm not sure.

I do know though that some users who had only just purchased theirs and were faced up with having to pay got quite vocal with Navman and were offered various deals.

But at the moment, in your case from, the software has not yet been released for your unit. So all I would suggest is wait and see and approach Navman at that time of release.

Best wishes

alfieB Thumbs Up
