Re-charging TT3 Bluetooth GPS Receiver

Don't you just know it? My TomTom Bluetooth GPS receiver is just out of warranty, and has now stopped working.

I'd be interested to know if anyone has any advice about trying to get it back to life, as I suspect it is a re-chargeable battery problem.

The GPS unit spends most of its life sitting in the car cradle they used to supply, though it is powered from the cigarette lighter socket, and disconnected after use. It has worked fine for a year - never failed me once (how many TT users can say that?) but seems on the way out now.

When switched on, it will connect to my iPAQ and run perfectly normally for about 20 minutes. It then just dumps the Bluetooth connection and powers off. No lights show at all. I can then switch it on manually again and run it perfectly for about 10 minutes before the same happens.

The receiver didn't seem to be re-charging in the cradle, so I tried to charge it using the mains adaptor direct in to the receiver. The red light stayed lit for about 10 minutes then went out. Switching the unit back on simply repeated the symptoms described above. Leaving it plugged in to the mains charger overnight made no difference.

So, two questions : 1) Anyone got any good re-charging ideas?

And 2) if I need to buy a new Bluetooth GPS receiver, what's the current wisdom on best performance and best value for money for use with TomTom Navigator 3 software, please?
