As someone who drives 35000 + each year for work I find Autoroute and its maps/directions invaluable. I rarely get lost using this method of planning my trips. However I would like to move on and obtain a GPS unit of some sort but have no idea where or how to start. I nearly purchased the Aldi Medion system today after reading Darren's review but ducked out at the last moment - I had the last one in the store in my hands!! I am also a keen long dsiatnce cyclist and want to use GPS for this as well.

Help please, my needs are:

1. I have a large number of car and cycle routes completed in Autoroute and would like to be able to continue to use these somehow.

2. I am really only interested in GPS and route planning and guidance though would probably use Safety Camera software etc. if it did not significantly add to the cost.

3. For business I need street level mapping

4. For cycling I need truely minor road mapping

5. The unit must be small enough to mount on handle bars - the Medion would have been OK in this aspect.

6. Europe is important - I'm currently planning a ride from Cherbourg to Nice!

7. I am prepared to spend a reasonable budget but do not have to have the very best. I would like to be sure any system is "updatable" as reagrds maps etc.

Sorry to ask so many questions but I have spent hours reading the site since finding it just three days ago. I'm much wiser but still very unsure how to start.

Thanks in advance.

Why not consider the Mitac 168 with Co Pilot? I've recently bought one and find it great in the car and also out walking.
I don't cycle but it would work fine on a bike too as it's truly protable.

Autoroute 2004, has GPS capabilities, I've not tried it out on the move but I have got autoroute to pickup where I am with my BT reciever. I've crossed referenced POI's from TT with Pushpins and they match up exactly. I may put it on my laptop and try it out as a GPS system, if I do I'll post my results here.
