Hello

I had a Navman iCN520 for now a week and I'm slowly discovering what my Navman iCN520 can do

I keep having the same problem. When I'm trying to find a route from my POI HOME to anywhere in the UK, I have the message "Route Error. Start location not valid"

I have GPS log and when I have the same error message when trying the route demonstrator

Can someone help me on soring this main issue as 95% of my travel will start from my home

Thanks a lot for your help

jack

Is your home location actually shown on the map as a street, or do you live 'offroad'?

Hi JackMLE.
When navigating to a point (even from home) use the Go To - Address or POI and use the address search facility to enter your destination.
You do not have to tell it where you are as it works that out itself when you get a fix.

With regards to setting your 'Home' destination.
Before you leave home, go outside and get a fix.
Click on the blue arrow that represents you on the map, you should get some crosshairs appear on the screen.
If you now tap the box in the centre of the crosshairs it will give you a dropdown box offering you the following:-
Navigate To
Set as start location
Add to favourites
Show details
Add avoid area
Nearest POI
If you now click 'Add to favourites' it gives you 2 options.
Save as Favourite
Save as My Home.
If you now click 'Save as My Home' that should be it.
Now when you're out and about and want to go home, all you have to do is
Press the Home button
Click Go To
Click My Home.

Word of advice though, allow the 520 to get a fix before you enter your destination. My 520 does all sorts of weird things if I enter the destination before I get a fix, but once I've got a fix it behaves normally.
Hope I'm not trying to teach you to 'suck eggs', just trying to cover all the points to get you out and about (and back again). :D
Hope this helps.
Let us know how you get on.

I had the same problem and found it was down to my destination not actually being marked as on the road but slightly to the side. I found that once I marked my destination as being a point on the road (using the stylus), everything worked like a dream.

Hi jackMile:

I have also seen exactly the same error when starting a journey from my sons house which lies at the end of a 1/4 mile private lane. The lane is shown on the map but I have found the only way to avoid the error is to drive about halfway down it toward the main road before pressing the go button.

I also saw the problem once when starting from the Toddington south bound services on the M1. Once again I moved a bit nearer the entry lane and then pressed go, all was well. It seems to me that the ICN520 will not start a trip from areas not properly marked on its maps.
