Excellent work on the database as always. the setup is getting better and better each update.

One complaint (wrong word - suggestion for help to improve the database!)

At the moment the database contain location of motorway cameras. These cameras are NOT speed cameras but designed to monitor traffic flow etc.

In general speed on the motorway is managed by police patrols rather than speed cameras (which tend to be specs/gatso in roadworks, or fixed installations such as the M25 variable speed limit). There are some areas of Motorway (M6 near Mancheter Airport) and M42 near Birmingham airport that now have fixed specs systems.

Work there fore needs to be done by members to 1) Make sure that traffic monitoring cameras (high CCTV camera) are not recorded incorrectly as speec cameras 2) Assist in the removal from the database of these incorrect entries 3) Assist in ensuring that the new specs camera on motorways are correctly logged in the new specs database 4) Add frequent police speed traps (i.e bridges/verges) into the mobile database

Lastly, would it be a good idea to have a new seperate database for roadworks speed cameras as a) This is the database most likely to be out of date b) If an alert comes up as roadworks in an area with no roadworks it is clear that this is out of date - the member can then log to remove from database?

Any thoughts???

Yep, the more detail that you can provide with your updates the better :D

Some time ago there was an active thread about roadworks cameras and a weekly update. I responded saying send in details via the usual cameras at pocketgpsworld dot com, marking them roadworks, so that we could assess the effort required to take on such a task. So far - one response last month, none this month.

Richard

Certainly a difficult task maintaining the temp cameras. It has taken me 3 days to get 5 minutes to send in some temporary ones from the M5 to you. From previous submissions and discussion I conclude that the dynamics of the roadworks cameras needs them to be posted in some way where people can "help themselves" to them if they want them. Then of course the next problem is getting them taken off, another task . The important thing is not to de-value the accuracy that the main databases of fixed cameras are now giving. The last update was excellent !

Thanks for trying to maintain the "temp" overlay but from your previous comment it looks as if you are receiving minimal take up on this aspect.

However, anyone who wants these four from the lower part of the M5 can have them.( All in a 40MPH limit protecting the roadworks)
