After many, many hours of hard work I've released an alpha version of my latest programming project, a PocketPC 2003 program to read output from a GPS receiver and plot your position on an "OS map".

Here's the homepage:

http://www.craporola.com/GPSMap.html

Important note to non-UK viewers: This version only supports plotting on maps using the British National Grid (OSGB) projection. Support for other grids/projections may be incorporated in the future.

I need your feedback - whether positive or negative, particularly if you get this program to work with your hardware. I've only been able to test this with my own kit (Ipaq 2210 and TomTom Bluetooth GPS receiver).

Enjoy!

dr. matt

PS. Don't ask me for maps. I'm sure you're resourceful enough to make your own Wink

dr. matt,...

I am not so much interested in plotting the OSGB on a moving map, but rather work form current location to next waypoint.

Showing current position, distance and bearing to next waypoint, current speed, SOG etc etc.

Track could be usefull as well but not required.

thnx
RJ

This seems to be a very useful app, but...

How do I know when I have got a satelite fix?

Why does it keep crashing on my iPaq 5450 with PPC 2002 - is it to do with me using a JPG as my map?

Should I be using the 'static' or 'dynamic' download.

thanks

PAUL

The WCE4 version works perfectly on my Acer n35 (OS=4.20). :D

The facilities provided, intuitive feel and ease of use are commendable.

Tips
1. The Acer n35 GPS Connection Baud Rate is 57600.
2. To release the GPS connection. Close Destinator before tapping GPS/Connect in GPSMap. From GPSMap, tap GPS/Disconnect or use file/exit before starting Destinator.
3. The Acer n35 screen is about 114 pixels per inch. To keep the same map scale on screen, scan maps at 300 pixels per inch, then scale to 114 pixels per inch and convert to PNG with save as. I use MS Picture It!
4. To save on memory reduce the map's bit depth to 8.
