Is it my computer or is the website on a go slow.
For the past two days it seems to take an age for the pages to load. I am on broadband and other sites and pages are loading oK. is anyone else having the same problem or do I need to adjust a setting?
I haven't altered anything recently though. _________________ -------------------

When the pages load, do you get the banner across the top quickly with a pause before the page content loads?
I ask because I have been experiencing these symptoms for a day or so but as my ISP is testing new equipment on the ADSL Pipes I had put it down to that, I'll make enwuiries to see if we have a problem here. _________________ Darren Griffin |

The only times I've noticed it to be slower is around the 12pm to 3pm timeframe as this is when the States come online and we get a real hammering from users in the States wanting to get to the site. Other than that the speed for me has been good. |

Yes the header appears quickly and the rest of the page about 5-10 seconds later. (750k)
It is fine at the moment, but as you say, slows considerably after mid day although I experienced this well into the evening yesterday. _________________ Ian.

...oh, I forgot to mention.
I also get the message:
'There appears to be a problem with the MySQL server. Sorry for the inconvenience. We will be back shortly'
It has just happened and reminded me. _________________ Ian.

Dave
I've noticed the same problems as are being being experienced by the others but I've had it happen outside of the timeslot you gave. I will however make a note if it happens again of the time.
Regards

We're currently seeing a lot more users visiting the site on a daily basis and that's now over 16,000 visitors a day which is a phenonimal amount serving well over 100,000 page views a day, part of which is from the mobile phone communities all flocking to PocketGPSWorld.com due to the great coverage we providing in our reviews (and forums!), but also State side, and a general traffic increase in the lead up to Christmas.
We'll keep an eye on it, SQL errors tend to be when there are too many people trying to post at the same time, posting takes priority over reading (for obvious reasons), and this can sometimes cause a SQL error. However, if you've had a SQL error before, clear your cache as sometimes the SQL errors will be served from local cache. Personally I haven't seen any SQL error messages for about a month now.
We're also seeing a huge increase in hack attacks against the website which I think is probably the main reason for some of the slow downs at peak times. Last count we've had over 1500 failed admin password attacks. Hackers are trying to bring the site down on a daily basis |

What is wrong with the idiots that try to bring down a brilliant and helpful site like this. (Oh I know they are no brainers) and when caught they want their fingernails extracting without anaesthetic, they wouldn't be so quick to want to hack again. |
