I'm using a NAVMAN 4410 and having a lot of problems. The Bluetooth GPS seems to work okay but the SmartST ver. 2 software doesn't work well. When I first boot, it locks up about 1 out of 5 times forcing several soft resets. It may be bluetooth although I can establish a connection in PPC Windows all the time without a problem. Only when the software boots does it have trouble.

The search features are complicated as well. I was traveling to Reno and wanted to find the Silver Legacy Hotel. The program forces you to first enter the type of place your looking for (you then wait as it builds the list) then it asks you for the general location (you wait some more is it refines the list), then you type in the name of the place (and wait a bit more is it searches further). Very slow!

The bad part (besides being slow and freezing a lot) is the program asks you what part of the city you want to look in for your destination. In my case, I had to choose between Southwest Reno, North Reno, Southeast Reno. Since I'm not from Reno, I didn't know which part of town the hotel was in. It took several guess before it came up. Isn't the whole point of using a GPS and a search feature to find the place for you? Pocket Streets is much easier...you just type in what you know, click search, and a list of matches appears.

My hometown of Los Angeles presents the same problems. Certain searches require you to know the neighborhood your destination is in before it can find it. LA is comprised of several cities (Hollywood, Beverly Hills, etc.) and if you're from out of town, you would have a tough time knowing the difference since most places' address' just say "Los Angeles." Finally, the manufacturer forces you to accept a legal agreement EVERY time you boot the program. Dear NAVMAN: I get it. It's dangerous to tinker with my GPS while driving. You don't need to remind me every single time I use your program

I know...It's a small thing but annoying just the same.

I'm interested in changing over to co-pilot. Is it quick? How are the search features. I really like the 3-D view in my current software but I'm told Co-Pilot's 3-D view doesn't display street names. True? Also, does Co-Pilot auto-rotate in the direction you're traveling or does the map always face north?

Thanks for the info.

Hi,

If you do not already have service pack 2 installed for smart STv2 then I would recommend that you download and install it.

Amongst other things it improves address searching capabilities, gives partial and exact name matching, better ETA calculations and nnhanced routing constraints.

Click here and run it to install the service pack direct from Navman support.

Thanks for the advice. I do have SP2 installed but the problems persist.
