I am concerned about the difficulties connecting using POI Edits update manager.
I am on and ADSL line using a Firewall, with simple settings, fixed IP and no proxy setup anywhere.
I have followed every helpful suggestion I can find for trying to make it work.
Like others I get the cannot resolve hostname to IP address message.
Unlike the various advisories, I find it hard to accept that this is a proxy issue. I can't ping, tracert or otherwise access the site either. These can be blocked at all sorts of places on the route, but given the frequency of a reported problem, I am surprised to find the site so securely masked as to be unusable.
This would appear to be yet another nice idea which has failed in the execution. Shame really. I suppose someone will make it work eventually, but I will have probably gone somewhere else by then. 2 hours invested with no return is not worth the effort. As an IT professional working with websites and DNS I have to say that the advice given on the support pages is not likely to help many people if it leaves me both confused and frustrated.
Just in case I have been looking for server reports and the only likely relevance dates from 6 months ago!

There is a problem with pocketgpspoi.com which was first observered late this afternoon. A ticket has been rasied and is awaiting action.
I'm sorry that this has caused you difficulties but we all have day jobs too and as soon as the issue was noticed we took action to get it resolved. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hmm
That is always going to be a problem when a documented problem presents the same error as an ad hoc disaster! |

Tested and it seems to be working again.
Even US based TREACERTs are getting a response.
Well done at getting it back. |
