Hi,

I have an iPAQ 2210, which unfortunately did a self Hard Reset. I went to use it and it was dead, I pulled out the battery, reinserted the battery and it came on (with plenty of power left in the battery) but it had hard reset itself. Anyway I’m digressing:

What I’d like to know is this: Since the Hard Reset, I’ve had to re-set up a (standard) Partnership (to synchronise with my PC) via MS ActiveSync, but it won’t allow me to select the original Device Name in MS ActiveSync as it responds that the device name is already in use. How to I get MS ActiveSync to allow me to reuse the original device name?

I have no idea what happened to my 2210, I certainly don’t remember knocking it or even dropping it. I don’t think that anybody else touched it either. The only thing that I can think of is that I was trying a new Brodit Active mount before I installed it in the vehicle.

Thanks,

There is a Delete Partnership option in the File menu of Activesync on your PC. That might do the trick.

Hi nej,

Thanks for the quick reply, unfortunately the “Delete Partnership" option is greyed out.

Is there a settings (*.INI) file for MS ActiveSync that I can manually modify? As it’s rather frustrating that I can’t use the Device name of my choice with the same PDA, just because it’s been wiped after a Hard Reset.

Regards,

I’ve worked out what I’ve been doing wrong! nej was right, however I had to remove the PDA from the cradle before the “Delete Partnership” option was enabled.

Here’s what I did to keep the device name the same, on the PDA and in ActiveSync, even after the PDA had been given a hard reset:

1. Set PDA’s Device Id
Start | Settings | System Tab | About | Device ID | Device name box

2. Remove PDA from cradle

3. In MS ActiveSync, select the Mobile Device name that you wish to delete
File | Mobile Device | xxx

4. Once you have selected the partnership to delete, delete it
File | Delete Partnership

5. If necessary, repeat steps 3 to 4 until you have just the device names/partnerships that you require.

I found that I had a number of erroneous partnerships in ActiveSync, especially as I have two PDAs that connect to the same PC.

Regards,

Have you reached any idea why the 2210 self hard reset itself?

Mine did the same a couple of weeks ago whilst out walking. I pulled it out of my pocket to check position and it was dead. I assumed it had just switched itself off but all the software had gone and the Today screen was back to default. We were near the end of the route when it happened so it was not a major problem.

I have a backup on the CF card now so if it should ever happen again I can reinstall the software.

Hi icsys,

My iPAQ 2210 died again on 14th October 2004. I tried the 2210 and CF card on a magnetic mount, which didn’t cause a problem apart from the force that the two joined, which jarred the iPAQ into a dead state. I removed and replaced the battery with no joy. I tried again, also with no joy.

Fortunately I’d bought a copy of Sprite Backup Premium Edition and had it installed on the 2210 together with a recent backup on the CF Card.

To answer your question, I think that a hard knock may be sufficient to do this to the 2210. Can you remember if anything could have knocked your 2210 whilst you were walking?

Regards,
