Hi everyone
Having had an early ipaq fo several years the new hx4700 has persuaded me to upgrade. I want to add GPS both for street and hillwalking use so I thing a bluetooth receive is the logical option. I am thinking along the lines of a GlobalSat BT 308 as I believe it's battery life is up to a day's outdoor use. I was looking at TomTom Navigator 3 for the street map software but was concerned to read in the review on this site the comments about the TomTom GPS driver which takes control of the pocket PC's bluetooth port preventing other devices from talking to it. Does this mean that i would not be able to link to my phone for GPRS purposes when TomTom is installed - the review does say you can get round it but doesn't indicate how complicated it is to do. Any advice about this/ other software options and GPS receiver choice much appreciated.
Cheers
Alastair

Hi there,
removing the offending TomTom GPS driver is no big deal - many users have done that already successfully. You can avoid the problem altogether by not installing it in the first place - instead install the older version from our downloads section.

Hi,

The Globalsat BT308 has an expected battery life of around 8 hours.
If you require a longer usability time you could consider (depending on your budget) the Navman 4100 BT receiver. It uses std AAA batteries so carrying spares is no problen, or rechargables if you wish, and can last in excess of 15 hours on a new set.

Is it reliable? yes. Is it sensitive? yes, I obtained a four sat lock in work today which was surprising considering the building has a concrete roof with a few small skylights.

Thanks both - Is it possible to buy the Navman without software or are they automatically bundled? Apart from the Bluetooth issue I like the look of TomTom in many ways and the inclusion of basic European maps is also appealing
