Dear Mr Stephenson,

At this time we have no information about TRAFFIC for the PALM. We do not know if this will be possible or not.

We hope to have answered your question to your satisfaction.
With best regards,

The TomTom Customer Support Team

Now not wanting to start another Yes it is, No it isnt type of discussions, we were given indications back in March at CeBIT that traffic would be implemented on the new common navigation platform.

In particular I believe the statement was such as: " ... when we release an upgrade for TomTom Navigator 3 it should have all the features of the current product in it ..." I take this to mean traffic.

If they are going to implement it for the PDA then almost by default it will be available for the Palm version unless there are any hardware limitations, which there are not.

The only question that remains then is when this will happen. My guess is that it will be some way off yet, and may possibly be a part of the next major software release.

They told me the same thing at CeBIT.

Then a few months later I recall reading a discussion that suggested the OS wasn't stable enough to pull traffic data down in the background whilst running the nav software.

This makes some sense as the Palm OS isn't multitasking... and if true, I guess we may have to wait for OS6.

It's not impossible to run background taks in Palm OS.
I can play MP3s in the background whilst Navigator runs and also be logged in to MSN, receiving chat notifications at the same time. (Sill not come across an occasion when I need to do all three though)

lets face it (and i have a palm t2 and before that other palms) the palm os is not going to be supported by any manufacturer. even palm with the release of the t5 must have shot themselves in the foot. the pc is no upgrade on the t3 so one will be drawn over to the ppc to get wifi, faster processors etc. if palm arent interested then gps manufacturers wont produce software for a declining user base. my next handheld wont be a palm Sad

but at least i will have choice of sat nav products Smile
