Upgraded to Smart St 2 after having my Navman nicked in a burglery. Thanks insurance!
Thought the 3d view looked great, connected up to the GPS at home to test it out and then

OH NO!

My street name is WRONG. And so's the next street along, and a few more further than that.

For Navman's information I live in Fortismere Avenue London N10. This is in the database as Cowley Hill. A block east is Apple Farm Grange and Couper Meadows -- IN THE MIDDLE OF BLOODY LONDON!

Now the chances of my area somehow having the wrong street names and the rest of the database being fine is, I imagine pretty low. So presumably there are errors all over the place. Anyone else got errors, and anyone know if Navman is ever likely to fix them in an update?

Just checked my version and the errors are there.
This I suspect is a TeleAtlas error. If I am correct, TomTom will display the same road names.

Autoroute displays the street names as (west to east):
Midhurst Ave, Collingwood Ave, Leeside Ave and Fortismere Ave
Am I right to assume those names are correct?

I have taken the liberty of reporting this. Perhaps you could do the same?

Twenty minutes with Multimap and I've found a dozen errors in my local area, which I will pass on to Navman.

This really isn't acceptable, and I would be amazed if there aren't other bad patches in the database.

Compared to Multimap....

In London N10
Fortismere Avenue listed as Cowley Hill
Leaside Avenue as Apple Farm Grange
Collingwood Avenue as Latimer Street
Lynmouth Road as Webb Road
Eastern end of Twyford Avenue is Tedrea Lane

Over in London N6 - Highgate
Talbot Road is Hungerford Gardens
South End of Bishops Road is Talbot Avenue
Bloomfield Road is down as Cork Street
The B550 Southwood Lane is Dock Road
Kingsley Place and surrounding roads are all called Attwyl Avenue
Hillside Gardens is called Behind Hayes
Jackson's Lane is Manor Farm Court
Southwood Avenue is Lockwood Close
The western end of Southwood Lawn Road is Bowring Close
Muswell Hill Road is down as Pynes Hill
Summersby Road is Well Oak Park
South Close is Grimsey Lane

You can tell they're not London places -- too countrylike!!

There are other places. One which was mentioned was in (or near) Glasgow and I know of one near Stratford, East London. As icsys says, it's a TeleAtlas problem (the errors also appear in TT3, from what I've been told), not a Navman one, but I'm sure that Navman will pass on the information to TeleAtlas.

I appreciate its not a Navman thing, and I can accept a few roads being off -- but the list I've just compiled is whole neighbourhoods of my local area all wrong!

Made me wonder if some bizarre corruption happened on installation!

Now this is strange.

I tried putting a few of the duff road names into Multimap, and some came up in the same locations as the TeleAtlas data has them in Navman?

But the actual Multimap MAP shows no sign of them, and knowing the area, they must be wrong/out of date names. .

For example Muswell Hill Road is down as Pynes Hill, but its a major route, well known as Muswell Hill Road.

Any ideas?

I thought that TeleAtlas made up road names if they didn't know them! But seriously, no thoughts at all. What do you get if you use www.streetmap.co.uk

Also interestingly, on Streetmap, no matches for the wrong names in my area.

Does Multimap use the same data as TeleAtlas perhaps?

Hi there

I know that Royal Mail Address Finder & BT online directory enquiries use Multimap and in the lower LH corner of the map on the Royal Mail site is a copyright sign showning TeleAtlasNV/Crown Copyright.

I've found a few discrepancies in Bristol where the maps are 4/5 years out of date.

Regards

I used STPro v1.191 (upg) for a year and I was really impressed, in fact I relied on it totally and removed the paper maps from my car. I updated my software to V2, mainly because it did postcodes. To my horror places I could navigate to don’t exist anymore, whole towns don’t appear when you type in their names, anyone heard of this little place called Weybridge (in surrey) or Surbiton. If you try typing either of these into the area box on V1.191 all is well, try typing them in V2 and they go red (presumably through embarrassment) and don’t appear to exist anymore. My Post code ‘KT22 8’ doesn’t exist in V2. KT22 8 covers most of Leatherhead and Ashstead a rather large area of Surrey to omit. I have many other issues with places disappearing or being placed in different areas, for example my mum (pre V2) lived in a pretty village called Great Bookham in Surrey, but now ST V2 has moved her 4 miles up the road to Leatherhead and Great Bookham has been obliterated. The same fate seems to have become many other places, including East Runton in Norfolk (where my holiday home is) according to V2 it’s moved to Cromer, which is the next place on. I have emailed Navman from there support page twice, quite shockingly I have had no reply (maybe the staff used V2 to navigate to work and are stuck somewhere in Scotland). I am quite disgusted as I really liked this software, but since they obviously employed Mark Thatcher to do t maps on V2 I have had to re-install V1.191, which im pleased to say works fine (Yes I did install the service pack for V2) I have wasted the best part of £130 - no I didn’t get a free upgrade via email. I have thought of emailing Watchdog, but up until this version I really liked the software. Has anyone got any ideas on how I can contact Navman other than email?

Hi here

You can contact Navman-Europe direct on 01293 780 500. This will get you through to the Technical Service Department. I find it's far more expedient talking on a one to one basis than trying to get an e-mail answer.

markymark_surrey,
I have just tried entering Weybridge, Surbiton, and KT22 8 into STPro V2 and it found them all without any problem. However, Great Bookham and Little Bookham do seem to have been merged as just Bookham! East Runton shows up OK although it is quite possible that a particular street address does show up as being in Cromer. I don't know why you should have a problem with the first 3 locations you mention, but the other peculiarities are probably a consequence of Navman having switched from using Navteq to Teleatlas for supplying their map data. The Navteq data is generally recognised as being superior.

I now use CoPilot myself.

Hi All,
I'm new to this forum and recently acquired my 1st SatNav system, the Navman 510 this Sunday. Cut a long story short... Its called UNION RISE on the navman!!!!!

Checking with Multimap gave me the RIGHT road name... below is the link for multimap and the co ordinates too. could some one check this on the navman if they live locally in Walthamstow, East London. Thank you for your help.
