Using alternative maps?

Given the issues with the release version of the tele atlas maps with Tomtom (I am using v4 for Palm), is it possible to buy the latest tele atlas maps and convert them / import them for use with TT4/TT3?

Is there a process / utility to perform this?

It just struck me while playing with a colleague's destinator (tele atlas maps) install which includes roads left out of the tomtom version of the atlas. (Specifically the Silverstone bypass in Northants.)

It is not possible to use maps of foreign applications. This is not in the business interest of the navigation system vendors
