Lord knows I've tried to find it but does CP5 have a way of displaying your current speed?

yes, you can select that as one of the items in the bottom two status lines. Just tap the lines to iterate through the offerings.

Is that the little grey road that pops up. I'm at my desk so not moving so I can't see any mph numbers

Start CP5. Tools-Options-Guidance. In the 2nd box down Custom Display. You can change the setting for the Top & Bottom Display Lines.
I have Top set to Heading and Bottom to Speed.
When driving in Guidance Mode it shows my heading in degrees of the compass and Speed in MPH.

Or just wait until you're on the safety screen and tap one of the two lines and it will rotate around the features :D

None of this is in the manual or help pages so thanks again for your help. I am enjoying the product though. Having read the reviews and users comments my expectations were about right so I am very pleased. Just using it for point to point and will"introduce" the features in good time. Lack of detailed info like we have been discussing makes it harder though

Setting the two lines in options ensures CP starts up with these as the default. Should I need one of the other features, as you say, atop on one of the lines.

To be fair to ALK this is in the manual (or at least the one I have, CPL5, on the desktop Start > Programs > CoPilot PocketPC 5 > User Manual).

In the quickstart page "x" it shows a picture of the safety screen with a line pointing to the half speedo and the legend "Current speed (customizable)".

Page 32 shows the same picture but after the word "customizable" adds "see page 50".

Page 50 gives the instruction:
These lines can display the current road, nearest crossroad, nearest major road, nearest town, ETA, or speed. NOTE: Defaults are set here, but you can also toggle through the options by tapping the lines themselves.

I'm not trying to be clever here by pointing this out, just alerting any readers who aren't aware or who don't own the product yet that there is a decent manual installed on the PC with CPL5.

Hope this helps,

Crash

No problem there Crash. I actually found it myself as well in the end. Good thing is that CP5 is largely intuative anyway and for navigating and planning I find it extremely simple to use. A big plus. I struggle with the layout of most manuals, its down to the way the author and the reader think how quickly you can spot stuff. I would prefer a section of all the on screen options for instance but that not a complaint about CP5 just my own preference. Once you find the references it really is all there. I have now taken the time to read the manual and it is excellent so I wouldn't want to give the wrong impression.

Fact is I was up and running so quickly and enjoying the ease of planning straightforward routes that I forgot my own original advice about learning it first. I did it with the PDA and BT GPS. The advice is the same for CP5. You can use it simply straight off the bat but the old cliche about reading the manual is always a good one. In the short term you can always ask here of course, as I did, you get both solutions........
