I tried to install CP5 on my XDA2 and the Download Data Wizard does not recognise my memory card. So you end with with CP% on the XDA2 but no maps. Spoke to ALK support and they say this is a known problem and a patch is due out by Friday 10.09.04. If they don't fix this by Friday I will be returning the product under their 30 day full refund guarantee.

BTW - I somehow did manage to load some maps onto the XDA2 and was able to get the welcome screen up. However, it crashed the XDA2 everytime I tried to use it or activate the maps. So there could be more than just a problem with the Download Wizard S/W.

Has anyone else tried CP5 with an XDA2?

I'll keep you posted.

Have you tried to load the map onto the storage card while it's in a card reader connected to the PC?

Alternatively you can also install the maps to the C: drive and then copy them over manually via ActiveSync.

Not sure about the activation issue, though.

ALK are aware of a problem with the XDA2 due to the way XDA2 interfaces with Bluetooth and SD, if you have a BT connection open then reading/writing to SD does have a problem under CoPilot Live 5.

I spoke with ALK yesterday when they attended the Stratford Manor Hotel Meetup and they do have a fix, originally it was hoped to be released Friday but they are completing final testing and it should hopefully be released this coming Wednesday.

Call ALK and they will either take your email address and email it to you when it is fully regression tested, or may send you a copy now as it's close to releasing the patch.

Been using it since it's release without problems, but then I don't use Bluetooth. As mentioned there is a patch due out this week that will address the problem. At the Stratford meet yesterday I raised a few points with ALK which they took onboard so waiting for a reply this week so will let everyone know the out come. So far it has been very stable, no lockups etc. The routing could be improved in as so far I find I have to use waypoints to make it route the way I want it to. As an example on saturday going to Stratford manor from my home location it insisted on routing me via the M27,M3, M25 then on to the M40 were as I wanted to go M27, M3. A34, M40 for which I had to add a waypoint on the top end of the A34 to force it to take that route. This was raised with them yesterday.
I find with pre-planned trips it is easier to create them on the desktop copy them to the XDA2 into \Storage Card\Copilot\save then navigate by using the saved trip option as this will have the waypoints in.
I have found a good quality fast SD card is needed with CoPilot as it writes each GPSTrack to the storage card in \Storage Card\My Documents\GPSTRACKS which if left will fill up the SD Card so they need transfering to the desktop. The next time you load the desktop it will transfer the GPStracks to ALK and Navtech

Thanks for attending Graham, it's good to put faces to forum names! I don't know if it was Dan or Peter you were talking to, but Dan will now be out for a couple of weeks over at Microsoft in the US so don't expect a reply from him immediately. If you need a follow-up try calling Peter at ALK.

CoPilot Live 5 routing does tend to prefer more major roads so if it can take a motorway over an A road it will.

Strangely enough returning on Sunday I received a call to meet someone for lunch in Andover so I back pedalled, re-planned a route on CoPilot Live 5, TomTom GO and Navigon that I was running in-car on the return journey and it was good to see some of the new road layouts I drove through CoPilot picked up but TomTom GO didn't.

It was Peter but I'll give him a few days as I'm sure he had plenty of other questions that needed answering.

On the return it wanted to route me all the way down the M40 to the M25, so I came off the M40 and on to the A34, as soon as I got on the round about it re-calculated the route via the A34.

I'm finding no end of occasions of new layouts that TT3 knew nothing about, especially when leaving main roads onto un-named roads, TT used to stop dead but CoPilot carries on along the un-named road untill you stop, then starts the return from exactly were I parked rather than TT's "GPS position un-reliable" until you get back onto the main road.

Its Friday. Last week ALK support promised that the patch would be available by today.

Called them this morning, now another 3 or 4 days days. I trust this is NOT the pattern of things to come.

If its not ready in a week I will definitely be returning the products.

As an aside, I was hoping to have a fully working version with all my routes set up and pre-loaded in the XDA2 prior to my tour of Normandy and Brittany in 10 days time. I already have TomTom but wanted Copilot for its route planning features - looks like I may have to rely on TomTom's "itineraries".

Kind regards
Phil
