I have just bought a DConnex 230 GPS unit on Ebay. It comes with a GPS viewer utility which allows you to check the connections and transfer of data before using it on with mapping software.

The system works on (virtual port) COM5 as I have loaded the PC version of the software and I can get data transfer by monitoring the BT status of the device. However, no GPS position is being transferred even though the orange light on the top says it has a good GPS position - I will try another piece of GPS viewing software (any recommendations for software that supports Bluetooth on COM5)

When I connect the BT GPS to my 2210 there is no data transfer at all. I have created a pairing using BT Manager and can connect from there okay but when I view status it just shows 0 bytes in and 0 bytes out.

Anyone use this unit and give me some pointers about how to get this thing to work!!

Thanks

Gareth

Would also say that when I run the port scan to try and detect the GPS on both the PC and the PPC the results aren't encouraging. COM 1, none, COM2, none, COM3, none, COM 4, none, COM5 Open failed, COM6, none, COM7, open failed, COM8, open failed, COM9, none, COM10, open failed.

When I look at the BT connection in WinXP I can see that the pairing has been made on COM5

Just some more info...

Gareth

Re Pocket PC, you probably have TomTom Navigator 2/3 installed or some other application/driver that's holding open the BT Com port. If you have TTN installed, uninstall TomTom ~ GPS and soft reset.

Re PC, if you're getting sat info coming through just no actual co-ordinates it's because you haven't acquired a 3D fix. You may have to wait 12.5 mins + for a factory fix. This can take anything up to 45 mins depending on how much view of a sky and local interference there is.

Thanks very much Dave. I did as you said and it works brilliantly. Just waiting for the fix now, currently acquiring 3d fix....

All I need to do now is installed TomTom GPS2.07 and then run TT3, correct? I have ROM 1.10 installed on my 2210.

Once again, thanks

You shouldn't need to downgrade the GPS driver, providing it still works now, the TomTom ~ GPS program was a fix mainly for 2210's that have a bug in the OS where if you don't disconnect the BT connection from PPC to BT GPS before powering off, then the Pocket PC will just hang on power up and you'll need to soft reset.

If TTN3 is working fine, I'd leave it on the current version.
