Downloaded the New D-Base no problem, however, the YELLOW GATSCO ICON, appears all squiggly on my iCN 510, any ideas... or just use the traditional Blakc 'n' White

Although I restricted the number of colours to 256 there seems to be a problem on non TomTom systems. I have reloaded the icons that were used last month onto the server, so new downloads should not have a problem.

The safety camera database isn't compatible with V2 of Navman SmartST, I'm afraid.

Hi guys,

Just bought myself a GPS mouse for my Treo 600, and am currently using mapopolis for navigation here in the UK.

Must say this camera database sounds an excellent idea!

Is there anyway it could be ported accross for use on Palm OS 5 devices, such as the Treo 600 & Treo 650?

I assume this would also need some app similar to GPSAssist...

Any recommendations for a simmilar solution for PALM devices?

(I'm considering going over to TomTom - any comments on that?)

Look forward to adding camera-alerts to my Treo system, and to becoming an active member of the database!

Can the filename be changed to include the version number? It make things easier for manual updaters like me...

I read in MCN this week that France is going Gatso crazy over the next few months. As a motorcycle tourer, I am keen to be able to 'press on a bit' when covering vast swathes of rural France as their roads are usually excellent, especially if en-route to Spain. Obviously I will show common sense and respect when in built up areas. Will there be any continental map speed camera POI updates soon? I intend to go touring fairly soon, probably between April and June, and would like to have the settings in my GPS before I go if possible.

Keep up the excellent work folks, your efforts are much appreciated!

Which filename do you mean? If you are downloading the ZIP file then look in the readme.txt file - I have included the version number in there. If you are using POI-sync then changing the names of the files make process of updating more complicated.

Good News (for me anyway!)

Got the database working on Destinator 3 GPS software (latest version 3.0.75) This is the version that allows POI importing. I used the .csv files from the download as this is all that DS3 accepts. Woulnt work at first, I had to re-arrange the columns in exel so they are in correct order with the requirements of DS3 and bingo!!

I tranferred the database into the auto alerts folder and changed the icon of this folder to the camera version supplied in the download.

Interestingly I wonder if "revenue collectors" work cross-borders nowadays. I know that some time ago any continental drivers over in the UK could pick up tickets and not have to bother too much about paying them. Is this still the case or have times moved on a bit?

Well there has been a rise in the purchase and use of vehicles registered on the continent by criminals for that very reason!

Westminster City Council do not enforce parking tickets issued against foreign regsitered vehicles and the congestion charges go similarly unenforced if your car bears foreign plates.

Police Officer's rarely bother issuing fixed penalties to drivers of foreign resgistered vehicles because the mechanisms to enforce them do not exist. As always it's those offenders that can be identified most easily that pay the price i.e. honest UK motorists who have tax, insurance and a V5 with their current address Sad

There is hope though, a new unit is to be set up to pursue offenders across borders where they persistently commit traffic and parking offences.

I have just downloaded;

PocketGPS_UK_GATSO.ov2
PocketGPS_UK_REDLIGHT.ov2
PocketGPS_UK_SPECS.ov2
PocketGPS_CONTINENTAL.ov2
PocketGPS_UK_MOBILE.ov2

using the POI editing software and it all works a treat.

Got to say it, you guys are good, dam good!

Is there any way one can obtain an audible recognition as you approach a speed camera?

Thanks for your answers in advance.

PS Love the site, it's tops. Laughing Wink

Hi ilovemyprobe,

Welcome to the forum. Thumbs Up

What platform and product are you using?

If you have a TomTom Go, then you can use the inbuilt proximity alert.

If you have TomTom Navigator for a PPC, then you can use a POI detector (e.g. CheckPOInt 2.0.2 which is free) and search for some appropriate .WAV files for the audio alert.

Regards

Thanks for your reply, I really should have left details on what i was using, how silly i am. Embarassed

I have an XDA IIs coupled with tomtom 3. I noticed Checkpoint on the site after posting up yesterday.

Is it easy to install and easy to understand, and to search for some appropriate .WAV files for the audio alert.

I used the sync software to install the camera files etc, is the checkpoint on a par or easier to install and operate?

Merry Xmas BTW and thanks again.

Hi,

Yes, CheckPOInt is as easy to install and use. You will need some form of POI detector to allow you to concentrate on driving without constantly looking at the screen of your XDA II.

Merry Christmas.
