GPS & EGNOS To Aid Security at Athens Olympics

The European Space Agency's European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS) is to be used in conjunction with GPS equipped PocketPC's at the Olympic Games in Athens.

Issued to Police and Security Personnel, the handheld devices will be used to improve the efficiency of deployed staff and aid in tracking assets.

It's a bit odd to read this BBC story, considering that EGNOS is in officially in test mode at the moment and shouldn't be relied on.

They make it sound like they invented the GPS system, but it's good to see that they are getting themselves some positive press though.
