|
|
Hi Everyone
Please excuse me but I am a newbie.
I have a Palm Tungsten-T running Fugawi UK.
I have received my Clip-on in the post, charged it up and turned it on.
Am I right in thinking that the Clip-On should receive satellite data and light the Fix LED without and bluetooth link to the Palm, because the LED is always showing red (well more orange but that's not a valid colour according to the Fortuna instructions).
I'm not sure if I have the bluetooth connection right, but thought that it should get a fix anyway, so I suspect the unit to be faulty.
Any advice would be greatlt received.
Bye

If the Clip-on is set to XT mode and its firmware is at Xtrac V1 then even when the clip-on gets a fix the middle LED will be orange
If you upgrade the firmware to Xtrac v2 then the middle LED will go green as it always does in ST mode when the GPS gets a fix. _________________ Ipaq 2210

Thanks TC
It has been suggested that just sitting next to a window in with clear view of the sky, is not enough for getting the first fix out of the box.
What do you reckon?
I have left it there for a good few hours in both ST and XT mode.
Also, how do I up issue the firmware, do I have to have a bluetooth connection from the PC to the Clip-on (which I don't have) or can I do it via the Palm Tungsten T?
Thanks for your help

I keep reading in this forum that people are experiencing hours before they get a fix and that they try taking the battery out for 3 hours or so and then try again - or something like that.
Well I have never had any such problems whether in ST mode or XT before or after going to Version 2. My clip-on alway gets at least a 2D fix in about 40 secs.
As for upgrading the firmware, I found this no problem at all. I just followed the instructions to the letter, but some people have had problems, some people have trashed their Clip-ons by trying to upgrade with the clip-on set in ST mode so beware!!
You have to upgrade it using you're PC. So if you PC does not have Bluetooth as standard, you will have to beg steal or buy a BT dongle (about £18)
Suggest you read the Xtrac v2 thread ...

I finally got it working OK.
Having read through the thread suggested by TC (thanks) I got a feel about how this works and got the feeling I ought to try removing the battery for a while to reset it.
So I removed the battery from the Clip-On for a couple of hours and then first switch it on in the middle of the garden holding it.
It found a fix within a couple of minutes and all is well now.
I tried it on xtrac and the fix LED appears to go green with a fix and so I assume I have version 2 firmware already.
Thanks TC
Cheers

Well done! Glad to hear it's now working.
One thing; just because the middle LED goes green doesn't necessarily mean you have Xtrac 2. Regardless of the version of Xtrac firmware you have the middle LED is always green in ST mode.
So make sure the Clip-on is set to XT mode, then if the middle LED goes green, it probably means you really do have Xtrac 2. |
