Who would prefer TT3 traffic to be RDS/TMC rather than GPRS? |

I would, i would rather buy a new receiver than getting a new phone with gprs and pay shitloads of money for data transfers plus the fee TomTom is begging for.
TomTom wake up the new world of tomorrow is already here, make that module and offer a decent receiver like Navigon|4 does. Only reason i havent changed to Navigon|4 yet is money issue And it really me that i already got a navigation system, but they are too stubborn to listen to the users. :/ |

Agreed.
I have tried the navigon system (for tmc) and didnt like it.
The user interface was just not as friendly as TT3 (although it did have some nice features, such as the ability do download a customised map allowing you to plan a trip across europe on a 64mb card etc)
TMC through RDS is the future. TT are geting away with traffic at the moment because of the market position of TT3, however as others improve (we already have navigon, alturion and now kane) and more tmc/gps receivers become avaliable I can see a lot of people migrating to rival systems. |

I wouldn't be to suprised if the current Traffic module already has the TMC capability builtin, just turned off. Regardless of data source (TMC or GPRS) the basic traffic information is going to be the same I suspect, its just a matter of reformatting each stream into the TT Traffic format.
It maybe possible for a 3rd party to develop an TT addin that will interface the current Traffic module and a TMC receiver. If TT have exposed the Traffic API then this should work. |
